You would have to give us more information of course (I think you know that). No one is saved on the basis of what church he attends or what he calls himself.

A question many Baptists ask people is "If you died tonight, and God asked you 'Why should I let you enter my kingdom?' what would you say?"

So what would your answer to that question be?

Am I, a Catholic, saved according to a Baptist? I'm just looking to see some of the reasoning behind why I would or wouldn't be considered saved.

You're not saved by being a baptist any more than you're saved by being a Catholic.

If you've been reconciled to God through Christ, then you're saved.

Denominations don't save, only Christ saves.

Of course a person isn't justified based on which denomination he belongs to - that's not what I meant to imply.

And to God's question, I would reply: "I am your daughter, my Father, and I love you. Because of your great love, you sent your Son into the world for the forgiveness of my sins. I choose Him - He is my savior. May His sacrifice be mine, that you might look upon His perfection and see me."

Based on this profession of faith in Christ, His sacrifice for your sins, and your accepting Him as your Savior, I would say yes you are saved. See you in heaven one day sister!

It's not up to Baptists to determine whether or not you are saved. Your salvation is determined by your relationship with Jesus Christ.

So, for you and anyone else who wants to answer the question, what do YOU consider salvation to be?

A very interesting question. I think I'd have to throw myself on the mercy of the court; I can think of no obvious reason for which I deserve any particular reward, therefore, anything I get will have to be because God is merciful, not because of anything in particular I've done.

I can't think of a good reason for Him to let me into Heaven. I certainly don't deserve it.

I think the best thing that you could do in that situation would be to fall to your knees and plead
"Lord have mercy  , Christ have mercy  , Lord have mercy  " and hope for the best.

Just for clarification on my intention behind this thread: It was less about my personal salvation, and more about what Baptists believe is necessary for salvation. That question was answered by Kayanne's response.

But I disagree that what I consider salvation to be are the conditions for heaven. I cannot believe that God says, "oh, well you thought it was this, so ok." But to another, "you thought it was something else, so all right." No. God's truth is not relative like that.

And I agree with a couple of my Catholic brothers who posted here too - Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy. One line that I erased when writing my response to Kayanne's original question, was "My own unworthiness is overwhelming, but have mercy on me, O Lord, a sinner." I figured that He knew full-well my unworthiness. :)

I thank God that Jesus came to save us from our sins because I am certianly unworthy! Like the others here I would have to beg for mercy and tell the Lord that I have done my best to love him and let his love shine through me.

These verses from Romans sum up the Baptist view of salvation IMO...

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the the heart man believeth unto rightousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation....13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Hi CL

Please know that what you believe and what I believe may differ. I don't believe that what saves us is what we believe, but it is the Grace of God.

John 3:3-8
"3 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus said to Him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again.
8 The Spirit breathes where He desires, and you hear His voice, but you do not know from where He comes, and where He goes; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

When Paul was faced with the very question of how can I be saved in Acts 16:30-33:
30 And leading them outside, he said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved, and your household.
32 And they spoke the Word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his household.
33 And taking them in that hour of the night, he washed from their stripes. And he was baptized, he and all his, immediately."

So I have to ask you CL are you saved? How can a mere man or woman answer that for you? If you are born of God his Spirit will testify to that (Hebrews 10:15 "The Holy Spirit also is a witness to us; for after He had said before"), and you will know.

If this is the true confession of your heart, then yes! This is what is required of us for Salvation. (I'll see you there!)

I believe the Holy Spirit leads a person to Christ (he is drawn). I believe that the time to plead for mercy is now and not when you stand in front of Him at judgement. I will not hope for the best, I will trust Him to do what He said He would..........John 14:1-3............Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me, In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and recieve you unto myself: that where I am, there ye may be also..............Through faith God promises to save you (I like the term "you are born again") when you allow the Holy Spirit into your life. By grace through faith. It is a work of God for man and not man for God.......With that being said I will say that what you prayed is what we "baptist" call the sinners prayer.

This is what the Baptists believe what a person must do to be saved or become a Christian.....

What defines a Christian....

A Christian is a person who....

*Has acknowledge their sinful nature and has acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the only way to God and forgiveness of their sins and has personally professed Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

*A person now who seeks to follow Christ in all ways of His teaching for their lives. A person who has given God lordship over their lives and now don't live for themselves.

So many people miss the boat on what a real Christian is. We are NOT born Christians, We are NOT Christians just because we have Christian family. we are NOT Christians just because we have been baptized. We are NOT Christians because we are a member of a certain church or religion.
A person also has to be old enough also to realize and understand what a is a Christian and what it takes to be one.

God's Love Is Revealed in the Bible.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

God loves you. He wants to bless your life and make it full and complete. And He wants to give you a life which will last forever, even after you experience physical death.

We Are Sinful
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

You may have heard someone say, "I'm only human==nobody's perfect." This Bible verse says the same thing: We are all sinners. We all do things that we know are wrong. And that's why we feel estranged from God--because God is holy and good, and we are not.

Sin Has a Penalty

"For the wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23

Just as criminals must pay the penalty for their crimes, sinners must pay the penalty for their sins. If you continue to sin, you will pay the penalty of spiritual death: You will not only die physically; you will also be separated from our holy God for all eternity. The Bible teaches that those who choose to remain separated from God will spend eternity in a place called hell.

Christ Has Paid Our Penalty!
"But God demonstrated his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, has paid the penalty for all your sins. You may think you have to lead a good life and do good deeds before God will love you. But the Bible says that Christ loved you enough to died for you, even when you were rebelling against Him.

Salvation Is a Free Gift

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

The word grace means "undeserved favor." It means God is offering you something you could never provide for yourself; forgiveness of sins and eternal life, God's gift to you is free. You do not have to work for a gift. All you have to do is joyfully receive it, Believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ died for you!

Christ Is at Your Heart's Door

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me." --Revelation 3:20

Jesus Christ wants to have a personal relationship with you. Picture, if you will, Jesus Christ standing at the door of your heart (the door of your emotions, intellect and will). Invite Him in; He is waiting for you to receive Him into your heart and life.

You Must Receive Him

"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."--John 1:12

When you receive Christ into your heart you become a child of God, and have the privilege of talking to Him in prayer at any time about anything. The Christian life is a personal relationship to God through Jesus Christ. And best of all, it is a relationship that will last for all eternity.
