• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi,

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I couldn't find anything about sleeping disorders (writing from cellphone, search tools are not as good as they are on laptop).

For the last couple months, I have been finding it insanely hard to sleep properly. Every night is a total challenge to me. I can't sleep until 5.00 AM or so. Even if I go to bed so early (and even if I'm dying from sleep) I manage to sleep until midnight and then BAM ! my eyes and brain are so widely opened that I can't go back to sleep until around 5.00- 6.00 AM. After my prayers, I keep turning in the bed for hours, then get away from the bed and read something just to be sleepy again, even smoke in the middle of the night to tire my body, but nothing really helps me out. I try to clear my mind, but after four or five minutes I find myself thinking about something so deep and hours pass like that. This situation is slowly starting to affect my overall daily life. I really don't know what to do. Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Christ be with you.

Sometimes exercise will help you sleep. Do you take walks? A good 30 minute walk will take away some of your stress and energy. I can't sleep because of bipolar and have to take medicine to sleep which I suggest as a last resort. I am praying for you.

Hi,

I can relate to thinking deeply and not sleeping. Sometimes I get a project on my mind and I spend hours awake. I found I just have to shut off the thoughts, fight them away, and I will eventually get to sleep. There is nothing more I can suggest really.

Hi again,

Thanks for good advices and prayers. Not much have changed since. My skin got darker around my eyes due to my lack of sleeping. My eyes look very tired and and dimmed throughout the day. I also experience short-term recollectional losses. Should I proceed to medical attention ?

Thanks everyone.

Hi RBF,
Agree with Ruth that exercise can help you in sleep so workout daily and early morning for better and early sleep. Check your medications to deal with obvious sleep disturbances and avoid taking anything before going to bed. Create your sleep schedule and quit smoking, alcohol and caffeine.

There was a episode of Beverly Hillbillies when Drysdales wife couldn't sleep. And Granny put her to work, scrubbing floors, beating carpets, and picking apples. She slept like a princess...

God did say in the Psalms 23.... He MAKETH me lie down in green pastures..

You can only go so far and you will sleep, God made it that way. You could try meds, or too much caffeine or sugar. Just got to narrow it down. That squirrel on the wheel is mean, and he don't give up easy. If you got somebody to give you a good massage, or a steam bath, breathing exercises, just got to try new things. Good luck I've been there.

That can be some kinda mental disturbance,May be something is not letting you sleep and disturbing you mentally.
Before sleeping your should make yourself physically and mentally relax. If any kinda depression is the reason than stop bothering things which irritates you.Listen to the music or watch a film before sleeping.Keep yourself busy with things and be a lil tired that will help you in sleeping properly.
