  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is not by works of righteousness that we have done but according to his mercy he has saved us. - Ephesians..

All life is precious to God, I think the question you should be asking is what affect does one who gives up and self injures have on others. We personaly may have a secure salvation and fail if we harm the temple of God, but ultimately I think the greater sin is neglecting to take care of our brothers needs. God puts us here to walk in the righteous acts which he formed for us from the foundation of the world.

When we choose to walk contrary to His ways we harm others. Suiside causes others pain and suffering that they live with the rest of their lives. Choosing life and reliance on God's strength can mean the difference between life and death, blessings and curses for someone else. If you arn't there to share with another the strength God Gave you to over come. Someone else may go to hell.

Remember the rich man pleading with Lazareth?
Let me go and tell my family so that they will not come to this place of torment?

He lost his chance to tell them. We have so precious little time to tell others.

I struggle with the same question...every day.....but I'm still here. I've had therapy over the years and I try to put what I've learned into practice....hang in there....just live one day, or one hour, or one minute at at time....as long as you keep living....God will look after the future. He'll look after your next day, your next hour and your next minute.

God bless, Annie

Please get help if you are thinking about suicide. Suicide is not the way to go. It hurts so many people around you, and it is one of the most selfish things to do.

the reason why suicide is such a dangerous sin, is because its the only sin that you cannot repent of after, since you are already dead. Our time on earth is the time to get right with God and repent of our sins. Once you die, you face judgement, and the time is already over. So its an extremely risky bad thing to do. And it is definatly not worth the risk.

Suicide stems from many things. Its an extremely selfish thing to do, because it hurts so many people around you. Depression is a very cuable disease, and there are many good antidepressants available. You need to talk to someone and goto a doctor.

What is that prompts suicide. Is there some thing you can't coop with that you feel? I 've spoke about rest and peace thats taking on Jesus's will / character. Taking on his character gives you his peace and rest. What is your purpose in life? What do you live for. If not God what is there? One's room is thats persons rest/peace ,so stay in Gods house and take up his peace. You know that you never die. You just moved in to the presents of oh Might God.That could be bad or good depending where you stand.Murdering your self before his time isn't good.

I've been in the place where my main concern about suicide is if I would go to hell. Though I'm no longer religious, I feel fairly certain in saying that both religious and non-religious people would say that's not a worry anyone should have.

If you believe in God, then He loves you and that should be a big thing. If you don't, life is worth living because it's such an amazing experience to enjoy. If you're not sure, anywhere in between. Whatever you believe, life is inherently worth living.

Don't worry about hell. Don't worry. I know I sound biased not being religious, but even my parish priest and other devout Christians used to tell me not to fear hell too much or worry about it.

I know what it's like to be depressed, so I know that nothing I can say will be enough to convince you that life is worth living. No amount of assurance from friends can convince me, so I do know. But I hope you at least realise that hell is not, and should not, be a worry.

Mere human opinions are little worth but I will say what I think from reading the Bible.

The Bible doesn't say directly, but we can make deductions from certain texts, for instance in 1John 3: 15 it says Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer; and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
But someone that commits suicide does not have time to repent of his sin. He comes before his Judge unforgiven with his own blood on his hands.

Judas the traitor commited suicide and it is said of him Acts 1 :18 -25 ...that he might go to his own place.
Doesn't say he went to heaven.

Hope this helps you :)

With all due respect, that wasn't helpful.

Honey, whether or not it's sin isn't what necessarily important in this case. What you need to know is that God loves you. Life is hard, and anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. But God has a purpose for everyone. God made you special. The thing about suicide, is it's almost trying to correct Him. It's like saying He was wrong about you, that you don't have a purpose.

But God is never wrong. He always has a plan. Sometimes it doesn't come out until much later but it always comes out. You just have to be patient. And then the reward is all the greater. That's the beauty of God is He doesn't do anything without a reason.

Hey ((hugs))

I think that the last thing you need to worry about is going to hell. That won't help you heal at all. And trying to change your feelings out of fear of ending up in hell won't help much either. Like other's have said, If it helps to talk to someone who cares about you, then that is a step towards healing as it can help you understand yourself better.

It seems like what you are going through is really difficult.. I hope things start to get better for you soon.

thanks for all of the help guys still don't kno the answer but thank you for all of the help

does the whole your body is a temple have something to do with self injury or is it just tattoos and stuff like that?

Partially. But it's more the fact that God created you. Suicide is in essence, trying to correct God. God doesn't make mistakes.

I don't think it harms anyone to get a tatoo, I just personally think it is crazy. No offense intended.
I have piercings. I would not want to bring Shame to God when decorating my body so I'd err on the side of using something less permanent... but that is me personally. I've seen really cool tatoos.

Many Christian Navy guys are embarrassed by their tatoos after becoming saved.

I don't think piercings and tatoos are the same category as suicide. I do think that suicide alone is not the determining factor in if someone will end up in heaven or hell.

I actually was 14 when i was planning my own suicide and had chosen two methods I thought least painful. I asked God to make me not afraid to die. Suddenly I was being taken by an Angel across a great expanse and toward a light - the glory of God shown forth from his throne so bright I couldn't see, but the love of God washed over me and I was no longer afraid to die.

When I came to myself I was gasping for air. I think I died and revived as a direct answer to my prayer. I only wanted to live for God after that. Daily God is my strength.

I guess for me it is enough to know he loves me. Scripture says if we ask for wisdom God will give us wisdom without reproach. I'm not sure why it is important for you to know about salvation in relation to self injury, but God alone can judge the heart.

Scripture talks about the Ismaelites and Judah having piercings for rings. There are nose rings for beautiful women.

On the negative side there is looking like the pagan nations by making cuttings for the dead... God prohibited this as well as marring the sides of the beard or shaving the temples.

Suicide is not selfish. If anything, it's a black mark against society for failing yet another human being. It marks the selfishness of everyone else.

People usually do not want to die. Even suicide is really just a cry for pain to be removed, someone to care, hope for the future, a reason to live.

"For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me...

"I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me." Matthew 25:42

with all due respect, your not a psychologist.

If you read early christianity, you will see that the reason why suicide is so dangerous is because it is a sin you cannot repent of later. It is a direct violation of the 5th commandment.

A person who is suicidal first needs to talk immediatly to a priest(or a pastor, I reccommend a priest because they are more experienced in this). There are so many different reason for suicide, for instance it could be a relationship or something like money or loss of resources(foreclosure, loss of job). There are many suicides where the person did not want to commit suicide, but they felt it was the only way out because they were put in a position they felt they could not get out. You need to find to factors as to what is causing you this depression that would make you think about suicide. There are so many different factors to take into consideration. This is why its so important to talk to a priest or pastor, face to face. Other reasons for suicide is simply depression that wasn't treated and the person had a large chemical imbalance. This can be helped with antidepressants such as SSRI's like Paxil and Prozac. Sometimes these won't work and something stronger might be needed like Effexor. Either way you need to talk to someone both spiritually and medically. Depression is a very treatable disease. Try to get involved more in faith based groups where you can find a good social support, that way when something arises you can talk to someone who is Christ centered.

Suicide is not selfish. If anything, it's a black mark against society for failing yet another human being. It marks the selfishness of everyone else.

it is though. Because it hurts the people who love you and who care for you. Except that the murderer is you this time. And you take away yourself from the people you love. It is selfish because the person does not worry how this might affect other people and how much it will hurt them. They leave people behind, sometimes even their own children and wives/husbands. Even if a person is suicidal they should say "Even though I may want to kill myself, I could never do that to my family, I would never want to be the cause of that loss to them, I will continue to live"..

i don't understand why god cant just tell me if i am going to hell for what i do or not!!!   i want to SCREAMM!!!!!!!!!

Well God can but why on earth would he? Especially if all that keeps you alive is fear of death? Like I said, why do you want to know really.

What is it God has asked of you that you feel so difficult to live with?

Sometimes there seems no other alternative but truly that is why we have others around us. To seek help and guidance from those who have successfully navigated through the hard spots in life.

Are you kidding?!

Telling someone who is contemplating suicide that they're an evil murderous sinner who will go to hell is perhaps the least helpful thing you could say.

I guess it does take religion for good people to do bad things. Not to mention incredibly idiotic ones.
