  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Where a person ends up is dependent upon whether or not a person has a relationship with Jesus Christ, which is what would concern me the most, especially if I were contemplating suicide, which I hope isn't the case here.

There is no hell. And suicide is not really a good thing to do. It hurts those around you too much. It is so much better to find what the source of the problem is and try to solve it.

By the way, for the Christian view on suicide,
In the fifth century, St. Augustine wrote the book The City of God, in it making Christianity's first overall condemnation of suicide. His biblical justification for this was the interpretation of the commandment, "thou shalt not kill", and the rest of his reasons were from Plato's "Phaedra".

In the sixth century, suicide became a religious sin and secular crime. In 533, those who committed suicide while accused of a crime were denied a Christian burial, which was a requirement for going to heaven. In 562, all suicides were punished in this way. In 693, even the attempt of suicide became an ecclesiastical crime, which could be punished by excommunication, with civil consequences following. In the 13th century Thomas Aquinas vilified suicide as an act against God and as a sin for which one could not repent. Civil and criminal laws were enacted to discourage suicide, and as well as denying a proper burial and degrading the body. Property and possessions of the deceased and their family were confiscated.[5][6]

Not that it matters because suicide is just pointless.

i have had this question for a really long time and no one can seem to give me an answer so i thought i might try it here....
does anyone know if any where in the bible it says that if you self injure yourself or commit suicide that you can't be forgiven and you are going to hell? :(
or does anyone have an opinion on it?
thanks

Others have given some pretty good explainations of the reasoning for suicide meaning hell (if there is a hell). Short and simple, it makes your last act a sin and one that you have not been forgiven for. I don't buy it, God can still forgive.

Many have thought of suicide, far more than you might think. By the time I was your age my parents had instilled one idea realative to many things that could turn out to be bad ideas. Just ask yourself one thing. Can I do it tomorrow? If you are thinking of taking thsi way out is there really any reason you have to do it now? If not why not take some more time to be sure.

I have thought of suicide a few times. The one thing I realized is it would have hurt those I would not want to hurt and it would not hurt those who did deserve to be hurt.

Getting back to tomorrow, if things really are that bad you might want to consider other ways of ending your life as you now know it. You do have enough time to start over and build a life. I'm not saying it would be easy or that you should, just that you should at teh least consider it before making any final decisions, and suicide is as final as it gets.

There are some situations in which suicide is not a sin, in my opinion. Such as if someone has a terribly painful, incurable terminal illness, it would be better to die quickly on one's own terms, than to have to have your life slowly sucked away by the disease. However, killing yourself for a trivial reason, like your boyfriend/girlfriend breaking up with you, et. cetera..is just throwing the gift of life God gave you away. I don't think that attempted suicide should be a crime though, because throwing a suicidal person in jail will NOT make them want to kill themselves any less.

IMO the best thing to do if you even consider suicide is talk to someone about it (not just on the net) 1-800-273-TALK. 1-800-799-4TTY in person if possible, and a pastor would be ideal. If you believe in life after death, then you know that unfortunately no matter what pain you may be in, killing yourself will not lessen it.

For self cutting God will certainly forgive you if you ask .

I think this is a misinterpretation of the bible. Many of the venerated people in the bible killed themselves. It happened. The only way you can justify this idea is if you place a rating system on sin (i.e. one is greater than another and/or not "as covered" as another). Last time I checked, Christ's blood covered all sin... not sin A-Y and not Z. If you are under Christ's blood, you are under Christ's blood. Period.
