How does one exactly get into to heaven? do you just have to live a good life and do good on earth? or do you have to become christian? What if someone believes in god but is not christian(like me) does that mean you can't go to heaven. If it does that means i would go to hell if i died right now. Yea i have done some very bad things in life and made some bad mistakes but my heart means well i respect people im accepting and non-judgemental. So im basicly asking well god let me in heaven based on all the good characteristics about me?even though i continue to make dumb mistakes and choose to live a non-christian life?.

No, unfortunately, doing good deeds alone will not cover your eternity in Heaven. Christianity, or believing in Christ Jesus is the only passage. However, God will smile on your good deeds and bless you for them, but those deeds alone will not grant your passage into His kingdom.

What if someone believes in god but is not christian(like me) does that mean you can't go to heaven. If it does that means i would go to hell if i died right now.

If you died without accepting Jesus Christ into your heart, I hate to say it, but yes, you would be in hell, seperated from your loving and Holy Creator. I was once in your shoes; I believed in God, but I had not professed Christ as my Savior. However, when I did accept Christ, my eyes were opened, my life was renewed, and my salvation was secured. Can you imagine what it is like for a blind person to see for the first time? If you ask Jesus to live in you, you will.

We have all done terrible things in our lives. I have done many myself. Some that I would mention, and others that I would be afraid to tell another person. LISTEN, Christ died an excruciating death for the sins of all who would believe in Him. His blood cleanses all who ask. All you have to do is ask Him into your life and your slate will be wiped clean! And guess what? If you accidentally do another terrible thing or make another bad mistake after accepting Him into your life, all you have to do is ask Him for forgiveness in prayer, and your slate is wiped clean again! God does not wish for any to perish, and He wants you for his kingdom. It is hard to pass up such an amazing offer. I passed it up several times before I broke down before Him and asked Him into my life. Will you pass it up? I promise you, if you honestly profess Him as Lord and Savior of your life, you will see with new eyes.

I'm praying for you and for God to touch your life. You can do great things through Him. If I can be of further assistance to you, don't hesitate to PM me.

God Bless you!

Here's the quick way to answer your question, just take the good person test.

www.needgod.com

In short, if God is good, He must punish evil. For example, a good judge would bring a murderer to justice, and not turn a blind eye to his actions. God promised to judge the world, and bring every deed to into the light. On the upside, the Law of God only had ten rules, so ask yourself if you've kept them.

Have you ever told a lie? (9th commandment) If so, then you'd be a liar.

Ever stole anything, reguardless of value?

Ever used God's name as a curse word?

Ever hated someone? (same as murder 1 John 3:15)

Ever looked in lust? (Jesus said its adultry of the heart)

So, just based on 4 commandments, will you be found to have never committed these acts, or will you be a lair, theif, murderer, and adulter in the sight of God?

Dan~~~>didn't exactly pass the test either

Jmichael,

While you seem to have many admirable attributes, to enter heaven, one must keep (that is, not break) all of the Ten Commandments and the Old Testament Law. This is the minimum requirement for one to get into heaven. As Mailman Dan pointed out, everyone stands guilty of breaking most of the Ten Commandments many times over in our lives. When we break these Commandments we do something called "sin", that is, we insult or commit a crime against God. It is this sin that stands between you having a relationship with holy God.

Now as with committing crimes here on Earth, the perpetrators are punished. But the degree of the punishment is directly proportional to the status of the person or institution to which you committed a crime. For example, punching the Queen of England will land you in more trouble than what you would be in if you punched an ordinary bloke like me. Similarly, lying to the Tax Office would be worse than lying to your daughter or wife, for example. How much more is the punishment then when we consider that God is infinitely holy and just? The only just punishment for committing a sin (or crime) against God is death. Not just death in this life, but eternal death in the next.

Unfortunately, no matter how many good deeds we do, we cannot move or make up for that sin which stands between God and us. We would just be meeting the requirement for us to enter heaven even on our best days when we don't sin. The only way for this block of sin to be removed is if someone sinless takes the punishment that we deserved upon them self. Enter the solution: Jesus. Jesus came and lived a sinless life and as such, His blood could be shed as an atonement for our sin.

In essence, what is happening is exactly the same thing that happened when the Israelites sacrificed lambs: they were symbolically placing their sins upon the lamb and then killed the lamb as a symbol of the lamb taking the punishment of death for their sins. God placed the sins of the world upon His Son and then enacted the punishment of sin upon Him (rather than upon us). It is for this reason that John the Baptist speaking of Jesus said, "There is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29, Good News Bible).

To get to heaven, it isn't about works, because no matter how many good works we do it cannot erase the fact that we have sinned against an infinitely holy and an absolutely just God and that that sin must be punished. Salvation isn't about converting to the Christian religion, rather, it is about acknowledging, accepting, and receiving through faith that Jesus took the punishment for your sins upon Himself so that you can enter eternal rest with Him. That, the Bible says, is the only way to enter heaven.

As Isaiah 53:4-5 (Good News Bible) reminds us, "But He endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that His suffering was punishment sent by God. But because of our sins He was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment He suffered, made whole by the blows He received".

All other religions say, "Do", Christianity says, "Done". Everything that needed to be done for us to enter heaven was done at the cross of Calvary when Jesus said "It is finished". Not only does Jesus promise eternal life after death, He promises to be with us in this life and give us what Christians call "the fruits of the Spirit", which include joy and peace, along with purpose, and so on. He offers a personal relationship with you, not impersonal as all other deities are. To accept His promises, all you have to do is believe and accept through faith what He did for you on the cross.

Have a good day and I hope everything goes well for you, Jmichael.

Don't my good works count for anything? Will not God accept me if I've lived a good life?

That is what alot of people think, that if they can live a good life, with the good works they do, outweighing the bad, then they will have earned their way to heaven.

Unfortunately, the Bible does not allow anyone to earn his way to heaven. The Scriptures teach that good works have nothing to do with one entering into a right relationship with God. This relationship is nothing we can earn, because God has already done everything for us.

Titus 3:5(KJV)
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.

Ephesians 2:8,9(KJV)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Hebrews 11:6(KJV)
But without faith it is impossible to please him.

If our eternal salvation was on the basis of works and we could earn it successfully, then God would be our debtor: He would owe us something (Romans 4:1-3). The Bible teaches that God owes no man anything, and that our own righteousness is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).

The simple reason is that God has a perfect standard, and all of us have sinned and come short of this mark (Romans 3:23). We like to compare ourselves to others, and thus feel that we are not so bad after all. But God compares us to Jesus Christ, and next to Him we cannot help but fall short, all of us without exception.

This can be illustrated by the following example:

Out in Southern California, there is an island off the coast called Catalina, 26 miles from the pier at Newport Beach. Suppose that one day 3 men are standing on the end of the pier.

One is an alcoholic, grubby, sick, living in the streets. The second is the average American, and the third, a fine, upstanding, pillar-of-the-community person.

All of the sudden, the alcoholic leaps off the edge of the pier 5 feet out into the water. The other two yell, "What are you trying to do?" The man in the water yells back, "I'm jumping to Catalina."

The second man, the average man on the street, says, "Watch me. I can do better than that!" He proceeds to jump, landing 10 feet out, twice as far as the alcoholic. The third man, very moral, upright, outstanding person he is, laughs disdainfully at the two men in the water.

He moves back 50 yards, takes a running leap and lands 20 feet out, twice as far as Mr. Average, and 4 times as far as Mr. Alcoholic.

The Coast Guard fishes them out of the water and asks what they are doing, to which they all reply, "We are jumping to Catalina," and Mr. Average boasts of his beating Mr. Alcoholic, and Mr. Great boasts of his accomplishment in beating both of them.

The Coast Guard officer could only shake his head and exclaim, "You fools! You are all still 26 miles short of your mark."

Although modern man considers himself better than---or at least as good as---others, he is still far from the target God has set for us. It is impossible for anyone to jump from the pier to Catalina, and it is impossible for anyone to reach heaven by his own deeds and apart from Jesus Christ. As Jesus Himself puts it, "No man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6, KJV).

Please re read Ailanthus post. She speaks the truth. I'll be praying for you. I'll add that I still even though I'm a born again Christian and love Jesus still make mistakes. But God is sooo very patient with me and very forgiving. When mistakes are done all I need to do is to ask for forgiveness and try hard not to do that thing again. God knows that we huimans has a lot of temptations to deal with. That is why he sent his son to earth.

The whole point of the Bible is to teach you are simply not good enough on your own.
You need to trust in God .

It's not about being Christian, being Muslem, being Catholic, being good, etc.
It's about realising your shortcomings and learning to trust in God.

Interesting responses.

I can answer your question: If you die tonight, not having accepted Christ as your Savior, you are going to hell. Simple as that.

Everyone who dies without accepting Christ goes to hell. The scriptures are very clear on that. And that everlasting lake of fire described in the bible means exactly that, everlasting fire.

Good works are judged by Christ once you get to heaven. As I understand it, all believers will face Jesus and have our works judged. Some of those works will be burned up in the test, others will not.

The REWARD we receive from Christ based on those "good works" has nothing to do with our salvation. It has only to do with the rewards we will receive when we are with Him for eternity.

I hope you make the right decision.

How does one exactly get into to heaven?

We're all sinners and have made ourselves enemies of God and guilty in His courtroom by breaking His laws.

That means that each one of us is deserving of Hell as our punishment.

The Bible tells us that God made us to fellowship with Him and to glorify Him, but that train jumped the tracks, so to speak, when we decided to rebel against Him.

In order to make a way that we might be forgiven for our sins and be reconciled to Him, to go from being children of wrath to children of God, Jesus Christ, the second person in the Triune Godhead, took on a human nature, came to Earth and dwelt among us, and paid the debt for our sin.

There is always a punishment and a payment for sin. In the Bible, this payment is made in the form of sacrifices.

Jesus, who knew no sin became the perfect sacrifice for our sin, so that whoever would repent of their sins and believe by faith that Jesus paid the sin-debt on the cross and was raised again on the third day, would be born again, forgiven and reconciled to God.

do you just have to live a good life and do good on earth?

No.

First of all, you can't live a good life. If you were capable of living a good life, then Jesus wouldn't have had to die.

Second, the idea of trying to appease God by living a good life is called "works-righteousness" and it's a recipe for spiritual disaster and, frankly, will make your life miserable.

There is a Greek myth about a man named Sisyphus who angered the gods and, as a part of his punishment, he was condemned to roll a big boulder up Mt. Olympus. The problem is that, every time he got near the top, the stone would roll all the way back to the bottom and he would have to start all over again.

Works righteousness is like that. You roll that stone of self righteousness up the hill, only to have it roll back down every time you sin.

It isn't enough just to try not to sin, the Bible tells us that we must be dead to sin.

or do you have to become christian?

Even becoming a Christian will not save you. The Bible doesn't tell us to become Christians, it tells us to be born again.

There are a lot of Christians who will be in for a very rude awakening on judgement day because they were Christians, but were not born again.

So im basicly asking well god let me in heaven based on all the good characteristics about me?even though i continue to make dumb mistakes and choose to live a non-christian life?.

Let's say that a man is arrested for raping a woman and is hauled into court.

He stands before the judge and says, "But your honor, sure I raped that woman, but I did a lot of good things, too. And just think about all of the women I didn't rape!"

Now, if that judge is a just judge, he still has to punish you.

In the same way, no matter how many good things you do, you've still broken God's laws and God, being a just judge, must punish your sin.

Can i ask a question? why would a loving god allow us to make are own choices but send us to hell if we choose not to go christian? Im just saying it sounds a little harsh to send a good hearted person to hell because he/she didn't choose christianity.

Are you a good hearted person? I know I'm not, I've stolen, lied, lusted, committed sexual acts outside of marriage, hated, pretty much all but murder.

Jesus was good hearted, he had no evil in his heart. In my statement previously, I am a thief, a liar, sexual deviant, and hateful. Jesus did none of these. If you have done even one at anytime in your life then it is still in your heart. "Good Hearted" is a misconception.

Your faith in Christ washes away your sins so that you may be like Jesus when you stand before God and Jesus claims you as his own. In God's perfection he cannot have even a hint of our imperfect nature in his presence. He would destroy us instantly, because that is what He does to those that defy him.

A loving God sent His only begotten Son to pay the price of entry to heaven. That is the remission of sin. That same loving God established the single rule for receiving that salvation. That rule is that we have to acknowledge that His Son died to pay the price for our sins. We have to acknowledge Christ's voluntary (and incredibly brutal) death for us.

Think of it this way. God put Adam and Eve in the Garden and established a single question test. That test was to not partake of the fruit of a single tree. They failed.

God knew they were going to fail before He created them. So, He provided a remedy for that failure. Note that He told them if they failed the test (and ate of the fruit of that tree) that they would die.

Since He knew they would fail He arranged another test, based on the sacrifice of His Son. If you acknowledge Christ and His sacrifice, you pass and proceed to heaven. If you do not, you do not go to heaven.

Good hearts and good works are not part of the test. Passing the test is much easier than living a life that God would perceive to be "good".

All our righteousness and good works are as "filthy rags" in God's eyes.

Hi Jmichael,

How does one exactly get into to heaven?

by loving God with their whole heart, mind, body, and strength.

or do you have to become christian? What if someone believes in god but is not christian(like me) does that mean you can't go to heaven.

God has bound us to believing in His son as the way to salvation. That said, God has not bound himself to this rule, and God saves who God wants to save. I would say that you if you knew better, and still rejected Jesus as your savior, you would be standing on shaky ground. In the final analysis, no one can say if you will go to hell but you and God.

Yea i have done some very bad things in life and made some bad mistakes but my heart means well i respect people im accepting and non-judgemental. So im basicly asking well god let me in heaven based on all the good characteristics about me?

That list of bad things you know you've done is nothing more than a divinely inspired list of areas which you need to improve upon to make yourself more pleasing to God.

even though i continue to make dumb mistakes and choose to live a non-christian life?.

That choosing to live a non-Christian live part is the most problematic thing you've said. How can someone expect thier life to be pleasing to God when they freely choose to accept the means of salvation God has given them?
