• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi Friends,

I used to be a very overweight individual(almost # pounds) and I lost down to # pounds. I'm five feet eleven inches tall and right now I wear a size # in jeans...but recently my father has been telling me I'm still too fat and that I'm a failure. In the past # days I've lost # pounds. The only things I've consumed have been a can of Coca-Cola, a # calorie pack of rice cakes and a cup of nonfat frozen yogurt. Totally around # calories for the # days. Every time I eat though...I make myself throw it back up so I don't gain weight.
Even though I am overweight...could I be anorexic or bullimic? Every time I eat I feel like such a fat pig...I want my dad to have a pretty, skinny daughter...so I have to do this. But I just want an opinion or two on this whole deal. Thank you

The path you are going down is a very concerning one, indeed. You naturally want the approval of your father but you also want his love. It's sad to hear that you don't feel that.

But, this goes deeper and beyond a piece of food. The relationship with your father needs to heal. Your father needs counseling and awareness of his actions ASAP. These hurtful remarks will only add fuel to the fire that is within you.

Hi there!

Please, don't go down this road. It's possible you could develop a serious and life-threatening eating disorder.

At times in our lives, even those closest to us or those who are supposed to keep us safe are the ones who hurt us. Your dad is your dad, and you should respect him as the Bible commands, but you don't need to diet or change the way you look. Arm yourself with truths from the Bible.

Read Psalm 139 and see how much God loves you, and how beautifully He created you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made! (Psalm 139:14!)

And remember that God created you and you belong to Him (Psalm 100:3) so don't try and change yourself for any human being but respect and keep Holy the body that God lovingly gave to you. For He made you that way because it was pleasing in His sight.

:)
