There are many explanations, but the most probably is the media effect. Media presents things one way over and over and people begin to think it is true.
It doesn't even have to be the media. People present things in one way or another, for a vast variety of reasons... and with just a bit of reinforcement, they think it's true.

That's usually not a problem. That's just humans being humans. It only turns into a problem when people cannot admit that they might be wrong.

But I am happy with them disagreeing... as long as they can present evidence instead of claims.

Which they never can.

Life is evidence of god

There is not a lack of evidence

Like you know there is no god
Funny.

Yes, exactly in the same way.

Which isn't the way you think it is. But we have already established that only your view of things is valid, and nothing anyone else says is relevant.

Because you never bother to "investigate" and don't give a fig about "truth".

See... there's 20 years of posts from me right here on this forum. If you want to understand my views, you could look. Or just ask.

But it's easier to just make up stuff. It gets rid of the pesky little problem of reality disagreeing with your opinions.

I do not know

Have you checked your memory? Do we finally have an acknowledgement that your memory is not perfect?

The reason you don't know is that you've got yourself to a stage where you can no longer make stuff up. Once you try to go beyond the trivial claim, you have nothing. There is no memory of differences because you were not actually in a different timeline, you just have a faulty memory in this timeline.
How are you even coming up with this information
I checked my memory, and there it all was. And you can verify it all yourself if you want to.

How would you even know?

If we follow your idea, they could be from the "timeline" where the Faiyum oasis didn't exist, New Zealand was in a different place, Arctica was a landmass, South America had shifted, etc... AND STILL have some tiny littly minute detail different. Because "timelines are close".

You have reduced this effect to "something someone (perhaps myself) told me they remember". That's all. All other means you have discarded, denied, destroyed.
If there is no independent evidence, it is "retconned". If there is, it is "residual".

It all comes down to your personal preference. Streets adding lanes? Sure, you take that. Holmes' first name being different? No, that's just not right.

This is the most pathetic and self-serving approach to any "effect" that is possible.

You only have your memory
Which is a very good thing for you.

If you had to go with other sources, like books or such, you would be completely lost, giving your poor reading comprehension.
