Mainstream Christianity teaches without hesitation that 'the lost' (once deceased) will finish up in a literal place of punishment to be - also literally - tormented for eternity. Note that this place is NOT a place of rehabilitation somewhat like our prison system is supposed to be but the actual end of the line for its 'inmates'. Once there, there is NO escape. Nor is there ANY way for 'the inmate' to redeem him/herself. There is NO remission for good behavior or for one's having realized the error of their ways and having repented of their sins. THAT'S IT for ever and ever and ever! As the song says, 'WE are programed to receive, but YOU can never leave ...' That raises another question or two. Who are the 'we' that are doing the punishing/tormenting? Are they among 'the lost' also? If so, then why do they have the authority to punish/torment others if they're on a par with the others? If not, then why are THEY there to begin with? Can they never leave either? Why? What does eternal torment even mean?

Now, if Mainstream Christianity is SO confident that hell is situated in an actual geographical location ...then it HAS to be somewhere. Right? But where? Is it maybe located somewhere in the center of the earth? Or, on an asteroid, perhaps? Or, how about in another dimension? One cannot in all reason spend their entire lives warning others about hell but be so vague as to where hell is. I mean, if I'm going to believe in a LITERAL hell then I want to be told precisely where it's at. Is that so unreasonable a request? If one is selling me an idea then I don't want only 50% percent of the information and be expected to accept it 100%.

I believe that hell is a figment of your (whoever) imagination.

So ...prove me wrong.

^_^^_^^_^ Hell is not eternal. The Lake of Fire IS.

Let me ask, before attempting to answer any more of your questions KC. Are you a Christian? Have you repented of your sins and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?

To KCKID,
Jesus explains the concept of heaven and hell/ghenna, hades as like certain things. So Christians know hell was like the rubbish tip and heaven like a mansion with rooms prepared for us. This is how it is explained because we cant grasp it with our minds and experience. Jesus Christ however does know what heaven and hell are as He has been there. You dont as you havent been to either so if you dont believe Jesus I cant see much point in you asking Christians about it as Christians haven't been there either, they just believe what Jesus Christ has explained about it.

Okay...

'Hell' is a grassy valley in Israel (the Valley of Hinnom). ;)
Ahhh yes Gehenna.
Just a little quote from that article...
"God will eventually save all souls, (I) interpret the New Testament references to Gehenna in the context of the Old Testament, and conclude that it always refers to the imminent divine judgment of Israel and not to eternal torment for the unsaved."

That about sums it up for me.

To Melancholy,
Hell is in a persons own mind.

Fair enough, I'm not going to belittle your belief on this.

The Jews believe/ed that Gehenna was a place of temporary punishment and that at the end of 12 months they would be purified enough to leave . This also reffered to Gentiles too.

Are you sure you use the CHRISTIAN HOLY BIBLE?

With due respect, Zaac. You DO claim to use the Christian Holy Bible and you've STILL got it wrong. So, please don't question the veracity of others.

The facts are that "hell" as YOU believe it ...exists ...NOWHERE! Except in your fertile imagination, that is. And it was no doubt placed there long ago by others. It's become a part of your thinking.

So, you're basically saying that, for Christians, hell is really still little more than a myth as to its actual concept ...?

By the way, Jesus died. He was 'buried' or at least spent time in the grave. This meant that Jesus went to hell. Hell is merely the grave.

That's been my problem the whole time! I've been using the Zorastrian Holy Bible.

Thanks, Zaac! Now maybe I can find the way!

And in answer to the OP: Any branch of your local DMV.

No not at all. I think you are.

Jesus descended to what must be Hades, the place awaiting judgement Eph 4, 1 Peter 3, but not hell.

No the NT doesn’t say that.

Hell is eternal damnation (Matt 25 etc)

A dimension of existence. How many dimensions are there?

Our life exhibits forms of eternity and finality to it.

It's is a picture of what is and what is to come.

Once again, we return to the depressed and loneliness that is so abhorrant in the human (and animal) psyche.

Psche means soul and mind.

What makes "us" so unhappy about being rejected? Hollywood as an example, there are many awards shows to justify and support rejection and non-rejection.

Why do people kill themselves? Why are people sociopathic? What "drives" a person out of the "real world" and into a place that is incompatible with togetherness and society?

We can get a picture of what is to come in eternity.

Science is on its trail.
