First, an explanation. Ally Week takes place a week in October (this year it's the 14th through the 20th). It was created by GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) and was created as a rally against bullying, harassment and name calling in schools. It's student run, created by some students who were inspired by the Day of Silence. To clarify, the Day of Silence is to remember the victims of sexual orientation fueled hate crimes. Ally Week is a stand against bullying and harassment of the GL crowd.

Now for the question: for those who disagree with homosexuality, do you believe Ally Week is good for student? I personally, thinking as if I did believe it was a sin, still think it's a good idea. No one deserves to be bullies. This is all student run, there is no propaganda. If it were government run it might be different but it's run entirely by High School students.

And for those who believe homosexuality is alright in the eyes of God, are you going to support the students?

There is more information here. You can subscribe and they will send you more information. This is not a pro/anti-homosexual struggle. It's a message to end bullying in school.

Well, I read a bunch of literature on Day of Silence and Ally thing, and I found out that a lot of it, has to do with promotion of homosexual behavior. Thus, I don't believe it's a good idea. Sure, we need to raise awareness of bullying happening to ALL students, but not make it exclusively on homosexual students.

Also, I am not a very big fan of GLSEN and their president Kevin Jennings. He is into promoting silencing of those who have negative views about homosexuality.

Just my two cents,

Sam

Where did you read that? Because if it's from anything online besides the original source, I doubt it's accurate. People have twisted the true meaning of these events since they first began by basing what it is off the actions of a few.

There are events that ONLY act to prevent racial and gender bias too. Is there something wrong with those?

I read about it in a book called "Homosexual agenda" by Craig Austen and Alan Sears. It talks a lot in there, how "wonderful tolerance of gay," have made it difficult for Christians to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in our culture, including public schools.

Speaking of Mr. Jennings, here some of his quotes:

Keith Jennings, the executive director of GLSEN, told a church audience in New York City on March 20, 2000, about GLSEN's plan to deal with those who have biblical objections to homosexual behavior: "Twenty percent of people are hard core fair-minded pro-homosexual people. Twenty percent are hard-core anti-homosexual bigots. We need to ignore the hard core bigots, get more of the hard-core fair minded people to speak up, and we'll pull that 60 percent of people in the middle... over to our side. That's really what I think our strategy has to be. We have to quit being afraid of the religious right...I'm trying to find a way to say this. I'm trying not to say,'Screw 'em,' which is what I want to say, because I don't care what they think! Drop dead!

How about that?

There are events that ONLY act to prevent racial and gender bias too. Is there something wrong with those?

Not at all, but why not focus on how people are being biased to each other in general, instead of solely being exclusive on homosexuality?

If you can provide me with a source I might take it to heart.

Besides, Jennings may be the founder of GLSEN but everything else is student run. I'm not a huge fan of Jennings or anything who treats such a delicate issue with real people like a political game.

I don't read anything preaching a "Homosexual Agenda" because such a thing doesn't exist. A book about agendas in general maybe. But there's so many pointed fingers like homosexuals are the only one with an agenda when any group of people has an agenda. Actually, groups of people DON'T have agendas. A little cluster of political radicals in every group try to say "WE'RE RIGHT" and that is the only agenda.

Me reading a book about any "homosexual agenda" would be no worse than my younger cousin reading "Mommy! There are liberals under my bed!" The preaching of agendas is just a Christian agenda.

Reading anything that speaks of the "Homosexual Agenda" (other than satire) is an exercise in dumbing down the brain and hardening the heart.

It is books like this that make
"Ally Week" and
"National Day of Silence" and even
"Gay Pride" parades
absolutely necessary in society.

When you all stop the marginalization and violence against us,
we won't need to do any advocacy work.

But if you all continue in your crusade to stamp out gays,
your only success will have been to make us stronger.

I'm against name calling, bullying and acts of violence against anyone in school. So while not specifically because they're homosexuals would I support it because I don't approve of that lifestyle, but because they are human beings who God loves and told me to love too. I'd duck out if it were just some ploy to promote an "agenda" though, and I would make it known to everyone that I don't approve of it.

If more people had your attitude there would be no need for a gay rights movement.

Sure why not? I would hope that such an event could eventually be expanded to include everyone and not just bullying against homosexuals.

As long as there is no pro-gay agenda and a mutual respect for those who do not want to support it, I can support it.
