  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All night prayers... Why?

Hey,

First of all, I am in no way bashing all night prayers... I use to do them myself. Please do not take this offensively, because I know many will. I do not want to seem prideful or arrogant so forgive me if I sound like it. I just don't see how it's biblical to pray over and over again for the same thing

However, today after youth group I was talking to my small group leader, and he asked me to go to an all night prayer.

I said no because I had nothing to pray about all night. He kind of was in shock, assuming that I must have been falling away... But seriously I do not see why choosing not to go to an all night prayer can make you be less faithful.

You don't necessarily have to pray for getting saved, healed, delivered, etc... all it is is faith in the Word. Which I have (hallelujah :) )

You see I love the Lord soooo much. I have so much assurance of the things God has said I have come to a point where I'm not sure what to pray about anymore, lol. All I've been doing lately is just praising God and thanking Him.

Lately I've been getting these revelations on how God has already answered most of the prayers people are praying. If someone is sick, for example, aren't we told to SPEAK to the sickness, commanding it to leave? Are we suppose to pray?

I do believe all night prayers can be useful, but I think only if God puts it on your heart to do so. He may want to test your faithfulness, just as he asked Abraham to take Isaac as a sacrifice.

I think though for it to work and for the person to get something out of it, it has to be first sanctioned by God, there is no point depriving your body of sleep and the nourishment it needs if you are doing it just for the sake of doing it. However if God sanctions it and presses it on your heart then he will recover your body. It is the same as fasting, I see people fast and then when I say to them did you get something out of it, they say oh no not really. Well what was the point then?

It has to be sanctioned by God, you need to be lead by God to do it, or other wise you don't get anything out of it.

Jesus himself prayed three times the same words in the garden of Gethsemene. (Mathew 26: 36-44)

Dentonz,

I understand in some circumstances praying a lot can show God your faith. But my point is that I highly doubt that Jesus was thinking in His head "Ok I really need to get this prayer answered, so I'm going to pray all night..." His prayers were authentic, they weren't limited by time.

Again, I'm not necessarily bashing on all night prayers, but I'm questioning the very idea of "planning" to pray long. You know what I mean?

If you feel called to it, great.

If not, that's fine too. Instead you could pray for the people doing the all night prayers, because I don't think they are doing a bad thing at all, and could probably use the encouragement.

As long as you do actually pray, as that is obviously VERY important.

I believe they are goood , its hard if u are praying in the flesh, but once you step into the spiritual realm God really moves..... Every prayer the is heard is saved up, for the right time when God will answer that prayer.....

Let's look at Daniel. At one point he fasted and prayed for 21 days. When he recieved the answer, the angel told him he was sent the very moment he started to pray. Did God send his answer because he knew that Daniel was faithfull enough to press through until he received it? Would God have sent it, if he knew Daniel would only ask once and be done with it?
