  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah i heard this. Let's take for example a person with depression that experiences fluctuations in his mood. Does that mean that person cannot control his brain that injects different chemicals which result in these mood fluctuations?
At the molecular level, no we don't have conscious "control" of our brain. But then, we don't have conscious control of our kidneys, either. :)

So the bottom line is, yes, chemicals make feelings. As another example, administration of anti-depressants will change feelings of depression. Recent work shows that iv ketamine will do this in a matter of minutes.

The idea that feelings don't come from chemicals is another in a long line of proposed "gaps" to insert God into. The thinking is: if we can't explain it by "nature", then it must be God. Such thinking is contrary to the Biblical accounts of creation and Christian thinking. God didn't create a universe with gaps in it.

I also am curious about apes and dinosaurs that scientists claim we became from. There was program on TV showing how ancient dinosaur's remains were found.

What do you think of this?
Evolution is how God created the diversity of life on the planet. Apes and humans share a common ancestor. We are not descended from dinos. Birds, however, are. All birds are descended from a species of theropod dinosaurs.

Transitional individuals linking species to species are rare in the fossil record, mostly because such transitions usually happen faster then the layers of sediment are laid down and because most transitions happen in small populations isolated from the main population. However, we do have a series of transitional individuals linking us -- H. sapiens -- back to H. ergastor, and another set linking H. ergastor to H. habilis. Then another set of individuals linking H. habilis to A. afarensis. By "transitional individuals" I mean individuals with 1) traits in between those of either species and/or 2) some traits of one species and some of another (called a "mosaic of traits").

This evidence, along with others, makes evolution irrefutable. God created by evolution. See the second quote in my signature.

I believe in God and I believe I would be arrogant to believe there is no other life in the universe. I have no idea what that life might be but it's existence would not shake my faith in the almighty. God created the universe and the earth is not the center of it... neither is the sun. The earth is not flat and cancer is not punishment for sin. People who are mentally ill or [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] are not possessed by demons...I do not know where heaven is but I believe in it. I cannot picture the new heaven and the new earth no matter how hard I try, if I do imagine it somehow my imagination will probably get it wrong.. I always had a problem with it (and still do) that the new kingdom has measurable perimeters. How can all God's people fit in their I ask myself??? I just don't know but he does... I cannot imagine a color other than the one's I have seen, but that doesn't mean they are not possible... Can there be something other than cold and hot? dark and light? is their a third aspect that my mind cannot grasp? probably so, but that does not make God less faithful. Christ walked on water and walked through walls.... How was this possible... he put mud on someone's eyes and they suddenly could see. he made fish and wine materialize out of no-where..If it were easy for us to do that it wouldn't seem so miraculous. He must have understood something we do not, because no christian since (to my knowledge) has been able to pull it off. What was Christ thinking when he cursed the fig tree.. Only he knows. THere are so many mysteries and I hope I know the answers someday but for now, I can accept that I only know certain things in part and if my understanding of them is somewhat misplaced that doesn't mean my faith has to fly out the window. Christ's deciples were with him non stop and they got it wrong all the time and even exasperated him at times... I'm certain I do too.
