  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm looking forward to it,I like the account Josephus Flavius relates about Alexander, how he had a dream about a priest in robes and after he conqered everyone he came to Judea and got off his horse and bowed before the Priest of Israel saying this is the priest I saw in my dreams.

I have come, over time, to hate the tortured accents of actors in military dramas as they try and shout in their adopted accents. Gladiator, The Patriot and Troy come to mind. Note to directors and producers - I realize it's a movie - I don't mind if the actors speak in their natural accent. If you're all that interested in "authenticity" how about having them pull a Jim Cavezal and speak in the original language?

If a movie is good, I can overlook my accent pet peeve, but the reviews haven't been good so far.

If you want an excellent documentary on Alexander though, and if you can find a copy of it somewhere, I recommend Michael Wood's Walking in the Footsteps of Alexander the Great. He traces Alexander's conquests and provides fascinating insight from the writings of his generals and other fellow travellers.

The most interesting aspect of it is the revelation that despite 1400 years of Islam, many Iranians revile Alexander, not as the Great, but as the Devil for his utter destruction of Zoroastrainism and the Zoroastrian Persian Empire.

I saw it, horrible move. It had decent battle scenes, but I don't really want or need to see Colin Farells package on the screen. The majority of the theater (mostly guys), all cringed when that happened (all the girls thought it was great). That and the homosexual inuendo doesn't end. I know that it happend in Hellenic society but good greif, It seemed a little over the top.

It's definately a movie to rent, that way you can Fast Forward though the whole Man/Man Romance (I know it's historical however I still don't care to see it) stuff or at least go get another beer and still enjoy what is a halfway decent movie.

I'd give it a 6 on the 1 - 10 scale.

The movie is almost 3 hours long, some scenes are downright hokey while others are really well done. Hard to believe the same person Directed the whole film.

Incredable story, poorly executed.

I had a friend watch it, and liked it. I don't know if its historically accurate, I mean how could it be? There is not much written in history of exactly what they said and did. It would have to be mostly speculation. Perhaps the PBS version would be better :) ?

Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole ;)

I saw it, and it made number 2 on my worst movies list. The whole two battle sceens were ok, but the movie was nothing but Alexander speaking in long dramatic speeches that never ended. The history they covered was in passing or by accient :p

I much prefered the History Channel's Alexander the Great.
