  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I get that sort of, but I mean more, even if I believed in the conspiracies, his inconsistency's how the narrative changes based on the guest or from day to day wuld drive me away to others.
This is a point which has made me wonder about the nature of life or better said our experience of it.
We are purely emotional creatures who use ideas and facts to bolster our current emotional state.

We work very hard not to upset our daily balance or feelings and how we view the world.
Once a political group or speaker can speak at this emotional level and we trust them, it does not matter what they say as long as it supports our emotional background. It is why the ramblings of political leaders in speeches does not matter as long as it reinforces the emotional narrative. And the emotional narrative is the "global elites" run everything, and we are just peaking behind the scenes, lying and distorting what is going on is just doing the same as the enemy are doing to us, we know, even here on this thread they are lying to us, if we can only catch them out.

Now there are people with many different motivations, but truth is still truth and is the only thing that ultimately has value. Following Jesus hopefully if it breaks through to the heart lays this foundation, but it is clear many people have the words but not the reality.

God bless you

Good insight.

I think the background consists of peoples deep unease at the chaos of human history. They want a grand narrative to explain it. And not finding it, theyll invent one.

Good insight.

I think the background consists of peoples deep unease at the chaos of human history. They want a grand narrative to explain it. And not finding it, theyll invent one.

What interests me is how we invent our own narratives around our family, our friends, our church and our work. I was shocked when I joked about my behaviour, and realised I wanted deeply people to see me one way and not another. It was like assumed and when clearly this was not how I was seen I got upset.

I listened to some elderly US marines talking about the world they fought for in the wars, that was now gone. What they were unaware of this view of the world was propoganda rather than reality, and the morality and standards they held high, were see properly only by a few. It makes the modern world so perplexing because so many different narratives are out there, and no one is dominant in social discourse. With information overload it is easy to literally get lost, and not know where ones foundations lie. It makes me wonder if often the power of empires and big powers is to push a simple narrative as the group view, which then helps people belong and identify themselves to.

I think we have an opportunity to create a narrative that is healthy and loving, which can build on what we know and help others find real balance. One principle that used to be acknowledge that certain knowledge and behaviour corrupts people has been lost and probably needs to be rediscovered.

God bless you

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The parents of a Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victim live with a complex form of post-traumatic stress disorder and a constant fear that followers of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones will kill them, a psychiatrist testified Monday at Jones’ defamation trial.

[Of course, this is a plaintiff witness, so salt grains all round. Still, as the article notes, there have certainly been many threats to the parents.]

I think a psychiatrist is an expert witness, not to be confused with an eyewitness or character witness. No need for the addition of salt.

Alex Jones has made a living out of lying to the gullible. Find what excuses you like for the fools who believe him, but what he did to the parents and friends of those murdered at Sandy Hook cannot be explained away. He is a wicked man who is being punished.

There is no lack of 'grand narratives'. Gullible people should be protected. Alex Jones has exploited them and taken their money.

To run an open free democracy, one can educate and guide, but there will always be gullible people who get into trouble, including myself. The difficulty of this problem can be seen in the NRA and gun control.
The gullible believe giving a nutcase 18 year old an AR15 with a massive magazine, is the right of every American.

It is ironic that the very people who fall for Alex Jones also do not want to stop access to means of death. If one wants to talk conspiracies, this is a real conspiracy with hidden funding, pulling strings, intimidation and bribery of those who could actually change things.

A democratic society gets the governance it deserves...suggests things are quite messed up.

The Lord condemns those who are rich who drift away from His principles and justice.

6 You have rejected me," declares the LORD. "You keep on backsliding. So I will lay hands on you and destroy you; I can no longer show compassion.
7 I will winnow them with a winnowing fork at the city gates of the land. I will bring bereavement and destruction on my people, for they have not changed their ways.
8 I will make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. At midday I will bring a destroyer against the mothers of their young men; suddenly I will bring down on them anguish and terror.
9 The mother of seven will grow faint and breathe her last. Her sun will set while it is still day; she will be disgraced and humiliated. I will put the survivors to the sword before their enemies," declares the LORD.
10 Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth, a man with whom the whole land strives and contends! I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet everyone curses me.
11 The LORD said, "Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely I will make your enemies plead with you in times of disaster and times of distress.
12 "Can a man break iron- iron from the north-or bronze?
13 Your wealth and your treasures I will give as plunder, without charge, because of all your sins throughout your country.
Jeremiah 15:6-13

So many communities came out of poverty and desperation, yet now in wealth and ease they are leaving the Lord behind. The Lord does not forget.

God bless you

Sounds like Jones' lawyer is not earning brownie points with the judge. Per 5DollarFeminist:

The gullible need the protection of the law in any society.
This is an interesting point. Historically education has changed and skilled the populace, so they can be more productive and literally know what they are doing and how they fit in.

Democratic change which we are led to believe is the driver in our society, started with allowing the land owners and powerful to affect the laws of society. In the UK until the 1920's the populace did not have a voice at all. Today with the internet, you can find out most things through the touch of a few buttons.

China as an interesting example. Central planning took on infrastructure and creating a market for innovation and ideas, while still keeping political power in the middle. It has changed a rural economy into a 2nd world super power and modern economy.

I get from this its is building the transport links, educating the populace and giving opportunity that matters no matter the politics involved. Someone else observed cities create wealth, countryside is always poor.

On this basis how many country folk fall for conspiracies and how many city folk are more open to new opportunities? Life experience of large communities and good lively debate brings about a healthy outlook.

God Bless you

Alex ain't doing so good himself.

But [Judge] Gamble admonished Jones for his behavior and said he had already violated his oath to tell the truth twice.

"Mr. Jones, you may not say to this jury that you complied with discovery. That is not true. You may not say it again. You may not tell this jury that you are bankrupt. That is also not true," Gamble said.

Finding something he said that was true could shorten the list. As in 'apart from that thing you said in 1986 about gaining a few pounds, nothing you have said is true'. It's a shame the US legal system doesn't pay me a retainer for advice.

“Did you know [that] 12 days ago your attorneys messed up and sent me an entire digital copy of your entire cell phone, with every text message you’ve sent for the past two years?” he asked. “And when informed, [they] did not take any steps to identify it as privileged, or protected in any way?”

“This is your Perry Mason moment,” an obviously shocked Jones responded.

[You don't have to be Perry Mason when the defense lawyer provides you evidence of the defendant's lies.]

“You know what perjury is, right?” [plaintiff's attorney] Bankston shot back. “I just want to make sure before we go any further... You testified under oath that you personally searched your phone for the phrase ‘Sandy Hook,’ and [said] there were no messages...You lied.”

“No, I did not lie,” Jones answered.

Previously, Jones testified that he didn’t use email so he would not be providing any during discovery. However, Bankston stunned Jones again on Wednesday by displaying his own emails as evidence—which also came from Jones’ phone.

“You’d agree these are emails you sent to your lawyers, your staff, and others, concerning your business operations, Sandy Hook, [and] other topics… ?”

Jones responded, “This is ridiculous.”

[yes, it certainly is.]

Mr jones is providing a wonderful case study for law textbooks of a case where the defense did every single thing wrong.
Defense team’s first mistake was representing someone of such character. Number two was probably not getting a large enough retainer.

Alex Jones is insane. When the truth of a situation is shown rather than adjusting what he is saying and admitting the truth he continues to deny and lies. At what point do you say someone is a liar, in the real sense of the term, refusing to admit the difference between reality and what they are saying, so there is no point listening to them. There is a point at which they are in so deep they having nothing to lose than to lie some more.

I think people should resurrect the term LIAR to be equal to thief or murderer as someone who is totally untrustworthy. Culturally Trump has managed to make real news and proper reporting into the term fake news, when he is just lying, constantly. If you have met a person who continually invents things for affect you know what a waste of time it is talking to them.

What confuses things is when a liar knows they are lying and can say things are true to cover there basic lying, where truth is the cover to their intentions, rather than lying is cover up truth.

I suppose in truth the idea of censorship and penalties for lying need to be revisited to stop such lying which literally hurts and destroys peoples lives. Will Alex face prison if he does not stop lying under oath? He should because he is literally challenging the justice system to prove it has teeth when people openly lie. Behind the scenes the support from the right for Alex is probably staying their hand which is absurd. It shows how weak the system really is.

This trial is just about the compensation of the families in a civil case. However, the plaintiff's attorney has (I believe) broadly hinted that a new separate criminal case for perjury could be in the works.

Alex Jones would look really good in an orange jumpsuit, right?

Alex Jones is insane.

Insane? Perhaps. Was he legally responsible for the lies he has told and repeated under oath? If he was responsible he is in contempt of court at the least and guilty of perjury or perverting the course of justice; both risk heavy prison sentences.

If he cannot be held responsible for the lies, what then? Can he - should he be allowed to - just continue?

I suppose it can be hoped that the public exposition of such malignant stupidity will lead some of the ‘conservatives are being silenced’ mob towards a better understanding of what free speech means in a responsible society.
