Evidently the Greek Old Testament (LXX, Septuagint) uses aionios of finite duration, the same word that is often translated "eternal" at Mt.25:46:

I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient(aionios) times. (Psa.77:5)

The discussion is about aionios as per the OP, not any -ism that was never mentioned therein. If aionios used in an eschatological context means pertaining to - an - eschatological age, it doesn't follow that this age is eternity or eternal. Scripture often refers to multiple future ages (e.g. Lk.1:33; Rev.22:5). In the same context Paul refers to both the age to come (Eph.1:21) and multiple ages to come (Eph.2:7), thereby making the age to come finite, not eternal.

and night shall not be there, and they have no need of a lamp and light of a sun, because the Lord God doth give them light, and they shall reign -- to the ages of the ages. (Rev.22:5, YLT)
