I would quantify that there is a marked difference between what can be called industry AI, which uses a significantly more advanced AI learning algorithm to actually work out in various fields and industries such as medicine, engineering and biology, and the more laymens AI like ChatGPT and Grok which are just really overblown and overhyped piece of predictive software.
I use regular chatgpt and google Gemini. Very useful for coding work and assisting with engineering concepts.
It's able to do coding work entirely on its own. When it comes to engineering, it still tells me to use other (non-AI) 3rd party apps whenever applicable but it's useful for reality check. My concepts are concerned with energy and helps keep things in check if certain law of physics are being violated. I have quite extensive experience in these subjects long before there's AI so I would know if AI is making errors.
It still make errors in engineering concepts but mainly because it's not accounting for every possible factor that can affect the outcome. Not to criticize AI because even engineers, scientists, make the same oversight (that's why there are still many natural phenomena that are yet to be accurately understood).
