MVA, do you expect us to believe that ANYONE gets up 4:30?

LOL!!! I'm just kidding, I do it all the time. I try to walk on my treadmill first thing in the mornings, but lately I've been slacking off big time....and oddly enough it shows.

I'm going to get back on the horse today I think.

Well, the truth of the matter is that I work third shift (12am-9am). I just happen to be on vacation for two weeks, and I just woke up when I would have normally been working. Maybe it had something to do with a text message that a co-worker sent me in the middle of the night that just kept beeping in my ear for an hour or so.

I have a friend from college that has the uncanny ability of sending me text messages in the wee hours of the morning, and it never fails...it's usually when I have set the alarm on my cell phone to get me up early enough to study a little more before a big test.

On my phone, if someone sends you a text message, it messes up the alarm and it won't go off!

Brother DJ, Night has apologized to you. Scripture says when you are asked for forgiveness, you should forgive 70 X 7. I know you are very capable of that because you're a good man.

About 30 years ago I took a class in which the thesis was "Which shall preserve for the future the image of man" and we read 3 debates (6 papers). At the end of the quarter we had to write a paper--that would be our grade. So, I sat down to write and it immediately hit me "Hey, none of these guys defined their terms!"--which means that none of us had noticed it all quarter long! So, I told the prof and on the basis of that observation and class participation he gave me a B. Two week later, I happened to notice that others had written the final paper but hadn't picked up their papers. So, I took a looksy and found that my neighbor hadn't picked up her paper. So I brought it to her. She was not a happy camper and asked "Did you read it?" and immediately confessed to what she knew I already knew--she had written the paper the night before it was due off the top of her head--she knew me well enough to know that while I can't express myself too well, I can read a paper and tell you what is going on behind the ink and paper.

So, when someone slugs you in the mouth and then says "BTW, I'm sorry for trespassing on your lawn yesterday" would you believe them? Nobody asked for "grovel," just sincere would have been nice.

How old was your Granny at that point?

Had to call my sister to ask! She was in her 80's at the time.

The bull stayed in a pen in the barn--no barbed wire fence was going to hold him in! Unfortunately, for a "being" that mean he was all alone all day long. So, when I'd come over to water and feed the cows he'd bawl for some attention. So, I'd stop and scratch his head for a bit, until he'd try to slam my arm against the side of the pen with his horns. One day I was in a bit of a rush and tried to leave quickly. I just barely got outside the barn when the big baby bawled so badly I just had to go back in and pet him! Until he'd try to slam my arm against the side of the pen with his horns, again!

DJ, I totally understand. I have been faced with "left-handed" apologies before myself.

I can't make him be sincere and I can't make you forgive him....

In the end, you both have to answer to those things on your own. If the people of this board would try to step in and just offer some advice instead of trying to do the "making", we'd all be a lot better off.

LET GOD DO HIS JOB!

And do NOT let anyone ridicule you for training the squirrels or when you post a thread that isn't about debate. I look forward to those posts and it looks like a sucker punch every time I see someone ridicule them.

Agreed. Left-handed apologies not only insult our intelligence, they insult our sense of right and wrong because we ALL know we're supposed to forgive.

I can not look a genuine apology in the face and say "no, I won't forgive you". Like Jesus said, even if they continue to hurt you and continue to ask for forgiveness, you must forgive them.

But I do think Jesus calls for sincerity as well.

I take the insults and what not like water to a duck. I feel it and let it roll off my back. But, they'll have to work twice as hard to get any respect thereafter. I've learned who and what they are. It may have been abnormal for them to behave that way (one study years ago said that males on the web are more aggressive than they would be in public) but I take it as a warning. So, now I'm on my guard (or even simpler given the way things are here) I use the ignore feature so I never see their insults and snide remarks again. They generally prove that the "apology" was superfical by how they behave thereafter. So, now everyone knows what these people are like. These people have to learn what repentance (metanoia--only used 26 times in the entire Bible?!? Once in Hos. 13:14 (nocham--sorrow, how can one have sorrow for attacking your fellow man when you meant it? Don't they realize that they are attacking God, since we are all made in His image?)) means--another thing to chalk up to poor training by the pastors. Of course, I pity them as those who take their job(calling) seriously are over-worked and way, way under-appreciated. And most haven't had the luxury of going to the seminary to learn deeper.

If someone isn't truly sorry but they say they are, they're lying. Not just to the person they apologized to, but also to themselves.

Yes you do if your position is that it would make it easier for you to forgive if the person is sincere.... isn't that in essence what you have said?
