  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is there a "rule" that a woman must be X number of years younger than a man? Or even that the man must be older at all!?
There's no rule.

Some aspects of the relationship will be easier if your ages are fairly close together ... say within 10 years... But relationships take effort no matter what.

It actually makes sense for the man to be younger if you are looking at life expectancies.

Age need not be a huge issue. It is much less important than avoiding being unequally yoked with an unbeliever.

Just a few thoughts. :)

There are no biblical rules or even guidelines. Due to societal rules, most men are older than their wives. Also, most marry within 10 or so years of eachother. There is no commandment from God on this though.
I believe it depends on the couple involved. Just don't break any laws we have created to protect those who are not generally mature enough to understand what they are doing or can be manipulated into a relationship they will regret later in time.

*giggle* thanks for that compliment. . . I think! *giggle*

No, I'm just wondering why a lot of (obviously from these two responses, not ALL!) men seem to think younger women are "better" or "the only choice".

Yeah, no, I'm sooo NOT involved with any teenagers, Gimpy. *giggle* Well, except my Youth Sunday School class I guess. . . . no chance of any human or biblical laws being bent, twisted, or shattered.

I think this rule really all stems back to teenage years, because girls mature faster than boys its only natural to go out with someone slightly older, but as we get older the boundaries blur.

No not all and I really think it is silly, especially since most women tend to outlive their husbands.

LOL :D I never thought you were involved. I was just making sure you knew what I was saying.

hmmmm. . . . . you may have a point there.
My personal experiences and observations of Singles ads" show the those boundaries don't really seem to be blurring, as you stated. And I guess part of my confusion. Why do we get all wrapped up in this age ideal?

I think it's a personal matter. Since I don't believe in courtship except for marriage I always picture myself at 70 and realize I wouldn't want a 50 year old husband. For those of you who believe in more casual relationships, I don't think it should matter.

I think theres a partial answer in secular psychology too. They say that men trade intimacy for sex and women trade sex for intimacy. In a similar way, men are attracted by visual and women are attracted by stability. So a younger woman may have more visual appeal and an oklder man more to offer in terms of security. Not a hard and fast rule of course. But a general trend.

My lady breaks the rule by outshining all others whether they are younger or older than her!
