That's irrelevant to the original post and topic of thins thread. Let's stick to the thread's topic.
I don't think so. It's not irrelevant at all. Sola Scriptura recognizes that scripture is the sole authority in matters of doctine and faith not people. If someone teaches something that is contrary to scripture scripture take precedence . That makes it the sole source of authority in matters of doctrine and faith.

But scripture is not the sole source of authority. God is. A bible is not God.

I'm writing an academic paper for my seminary program AND teaching two Sunday school classes on the doctrine of Sola Scriptura. My basic thesis will be something like: "The Bible teaches the doctrine of Sola Scriptura and therefore we should accept it."

In order to do a bang-up job I need to confront and dispatch the most formidable objections to the doctrine. What objections are you aware of? Also, if you could recommend a good book or scholarly article, perhaps from a Catholic perspective, which seeks to argue against Sola Scriptura, I would appreciate it!

Edit: By the way, let me define Sola Scriptura. The definition I'm working from is this:

The Bible alone is the Word of God and the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

What objections have you gleaned from your thread?

What are the counters?

I write the table of contents first as an aid to planning the contents of the book.

Not to state the obvious, but God doesn't work like we do.

Is. 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Rev. 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

IOW, He has written the table to the contents.

So again, you agree that the apostles and prophets wrote down all things necessary for our salvation. They left nothing out. That's your belief, correct?

The biggest objections seem to be:
  1. The Bible does not teach Sola Scriptura.
  2. Sola Scriptura is responsible for division in the church.
  3. Sola Scriptura makes an idol out of the Bible.
  4. The Bible doesn't define the canon.
It will take a whole paper to deal with these objections. But they are fairly easily and adequately dealt with.

Only in cloud cuckoo land are they easily dealt with.

No, if the G man was in Protestant lands his research and discovery would have been unimpeded. Scientific discovery flourished after the Reformation in Europe.

As did a rise in secularism, praise of Greco-Roman paganism within the arts, revolts, anti-clericalism, philosophical speculation that eventually gave rise to atheistic humanism, and with it, moral relativism.

That all thrived in Continental Europe in the 18th and 19th century. Not in the UK and United States.
