Did you take communion at this Mass?
No, I'm not even sure if it's correct to call it a Mass. It was more of a gathering of the whole school at the Church to prepare for Confession. He went through the normal routine of a Mass though for the most part up until the Gospel. Then after that he started talking about confession.

"Anyone having a mortal sin weighing on his conscience must not receive Holy Communion without first having recourse to sacramental confession, even though he considers himself to have true contrition; in the case of necessity and in the absence of a confessor, he must first make a perfect act of contrition"

So do you think we should go to confession before Mass every single time we go?

Ok so then Penance services do not get the Eucharist?
Correct, at least that is how I remember it. I hated it. I will never go to another one, it is totally lame. The priest set up chair around the church then people get in line to wait thier turn. Ther is no privacy, no time to discuss your sins, just the quick drive through confessions!

Right then, I guess I shouldn't get communion then until I go to confession. It is literally an impossibilty here to get confession before every Mass. As far as I know confessions are held here once a month.

Does God forgive people without going to confession if they confess their sins to Him and ask for forgiveness? Or is attending confession neccessary to be assured of forgiveness?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm probably annoying you all by now. Just want to say thanks so much, I haven't been here long but I've still learnt a lot since I joined.

Shar I am not accusing you of lying or anything I am just saying that this doesn't sound like a proper Catholic Mass...
Sorry, I'm just a tad defensive. :)

I know it wasn't a proper Catholic Mass...it usually isn't like this at all. As I said we were just taken up there during school for Mass and that is what happened.

Thanks for your help.

Honey, didn't you go to Catholic school? What did they tell you about confession?

Shar,

If you make a confession once a month you will be doing better then the vast majority of Catholics in the US. It is a much neglected sacrament. I go once a month.
