In other words, violating people's rights to hire whom they choose, making it so that the preferred candidates don't get the job they would have voluntarily accepted and harming the rest of society as a result.

Umm promotions and pay means that you are already hired.

So what, in reality, does AA do ?

If there are no racial quotas, if the most qualified person ALWAYS gets the job or the college spot, if existing Anti discrimination laws have not been over-ridden, then what exactly is AA doing, not in theory but on a practical level ?

AA at the college level is run differently then what is enforced by the EEOC at jobs.

Well plenty of us from the Anti-AA position base our stand on facts too. And the fact remains that a government cannot on the one hand mandate race in ANY FORM in hiring policy while at the same time expecting the public not to do likewise.

And as for talking to people, almost no-one that I've talked to supports the policy for that exact reason.

The figures cited earlier in mhatten's post show that racist incidents have been INCREASING since the early 90s. So it seems that AA is failing in the real world too.

I was just sharing my personal experience, nothing more nothing less. :)

Then why premise the question to only to those who do not believe that AA? The inferrence is clear.

Because, if I may speak for him, he wants to know if those opposed to AA think racism is no longer an issue in America.

There is a huge difference between eliminating racism and working to reduce the detrimental and pervasive effects of racism. AA is for the latter because most people are aware that laws do not change peoples' hearts/minds.

I wanted to know why people oppose AA.

But, it does the exact opposite

I wanted to know why people oppose AA.

1. Because it uses discrimination to counter discrimination.

2. Tells minorities they are inferrior.

You can't justify bad behavior with more bad behavior.

2. Tells minorities they are inferrior.

1. What should have been done to disabuse racism in the US?

2. That is a myth.

3. This is relying on the claim that AA is "reverse racism." Since AA is not reverse racism then it cannot be classified as "bad behaviour."

Is racism, on the whole, no longer a reality in the US?

Compete -

2. That is a myth.

Then how come there is such domination of minorities in most major professional sports?

3. This is relying on the claim that AA is "reverse racism." Since AA is not reverse racism then it cannot be classified as "bad behaviour."

It is discrimation, deny it all you want.

Is racism, on the whole, no longer a reality in the US?

No - It is still there - AA will keep that fire lit a long time.
