  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm 20 (despite my age saying 19...i got my year of birthdate wrong..) and my boyfriend is 23. we've been going out for about a year now and have begun talking about engagement (very casually). we wouldnt get married until i have finished uni, because we know it wouldnt work with only one of us working, so we have atleast 2 years up our sleeves, but we want to do some 'research' on it. as in reading books and talking to people, and i was just wondering if any of you knew good books to read before getting engaged/married. We love each other very much and would love to marry each other, but we also dont want to do something on the spur of the moment without thinking about it and regret it in 5 or 6 years time or something. so any suggestions would be great.thanks

there's no book or course to get you ready for married life.it will never be as another says.2 individual people make the marriage unique.I think time is everything.Love eachother for what you have right now, relax and get rushing into anything out of your heads.i think the longer people are together getting to know eachother the better their long term life together will be. Forgot to say best wishes!!!!!!

- Boundaries Before Marriage (Cloud and Townsend)
- Fit To Be Tied (Hybels)
- Five Love Languages (Chapman)
- Adventures in Holy Matrimony (this one's a maybe - it looks good, but I've only read a sample chapter... I posted a link to it in another thread)
- Personality Plus (Littauer)

These will help you look at your relationship and work out what its good and bad points are... and hopefully give you some ideas and skills for making it better. The last one is good for helping us understand those with different personality types... very useful in marriage, trust me :)
