  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone. I consider myself a Christian (albeit a backslidden one), but I have a strong attraction and prior involvement (meaning up until yesterday) with the occult (specifically tarot). I want to really get right with God, and leave the occult behind, but I'm finding it hard to let go. Can anyone give me any advice? Thank you.

In Acts 19 the people of Ephesus burned all their occult material out of fear of God. They had seen the power of Jesus Christ and did not want to be on the wrong side of it. I would suggest getting rid of anything that might draw you back into your old lifestyle, because generally we are tested that way. I don't say this out of legalism, but practicality.

Start reading your Bible if you aren't already. I would stay in the New Testament at first. A good place to start is the Gospel of John. Mark is good too. Of the epistles, Ephesians might be very appropo, seeing your background; then Philippians. Just some suggestions.

And see if you can find a church that preaches the Bible faithfully, and practices the love of Christ. This can be very important.

I don't read the Bible itself very often, so i think I had better start!
Good plan! Make it personal between you and your Father. Pray that the Holy Spirit, your Helper, would show you what you need to know. Blessings.

@Lily Sunflower Well of course the answer to that is, no one ever really does.

And my advice to you, Jack, is to give me the code now. And if those devils come back and try any rough stuff, we'll fight them together, boy, like we did just now, on the floor, eh? You with the old gun, and me with the belt and the ammo, feeding you, Jack! Feed me, you said, and I was feeding you, Jack. pats Ripper on the shoulder. - Dr Strangelove.

Thank you @musicalpilgrim . I already feel encouraged and uplifted from the great posts I've read so far. This forum seems like a wonderful place for someone like me who's trying to get right with God

Welcome, first of all throw away everything given to you or in your possession belonging to the occult, then make the Bible your main source of direction hence forth. May God deliver you

Destroy and get rid of anything physical/material you may have that is tied to occult practices. Do not watch anything to do with the occult. Don't associate with people that are active in occult practices, don't hang around with them, even if it's family.

The strong attraction is satan attempting to keep you serving Him instead of God. Satan will not give up on you easily. You need to pray every time satan tries to lead you back into sinful things.

Repent of all your sins and start studying Gods word. Ask the Lord to help you overcome your sin.

Have you accepted Jesus as your savior? Have you asked Him to come into your life, confessed your sins to Him and ask Him to forgive you? Have you asked Him to help you overcome sin?

Right now you need to become knowledgable in the Lord and grow strong in Him.

God bless you.

“The one thing,” says the apostle Paul (in Philippians 3) is that “I forget those things which are behind me and then I’ll strain forward.” When you read something like this from the life of the apostle Paul, you have to be convinced that this is something he struggled with, a temptation that he constantly fought, the haunting of his past sins, the heavy weight of his past blasphemy, the painful vivid memory of the stoning of Stephen which he witnessed and approved, the nightmare of arresting innocent Christians and putting them in prison. Just like the apostle Paul did, we also need to keep on nailing our sins to the cross, burn those bridges of idolatry in our lives, and press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus. Choose ye this day whom ye shall serve! As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord (Joshua 24:14-15).

Different people experiment with the occult for different reasons. However, you need to know that doing so is tremendously dangerous, spiritually speaking.

It is good to leave that stuff behind. But it might be helpful if you understand why you were ever involved with it in the first place. I can't speak to your exact situation, obviously, but people I know who have dabbled with that stuff have told me that they did so because they were curious/worried about/afraid of the future and wanted to assurances that everything would turn out okay in the end.

So if that applies to you, it might be beneficial that God give you peace and acceptance about whatever the future may bring.

That's just an example though. In the end, the sooner you leave that stuff behind and get all related occult materials out of your home (if any), the better.

Good luck!

Scroll down to the second part of this blog, prayer to renounce evil, which would be most applicable to your situation.

I know I need to do this, but it hard for me to throw away things that I paid good money for. :( For now, I'm putting my tarot decks away on a high shelf in the closet (I own 50 of them, which is small compared to some people's collections), and trying to forget about them.

Thank you for being so honest, @andy b ! I love what you said about making the good days outnumber the bad - that's where I am right now too.

Thank you @eleos1954 . I accepted Jesus as my savior years ago, but I haven't been paying much attention to Him. I think I need to rededicate my life to Him, and start truly following Him instead of just paying Him lip service.
