So, yeah, it annoys me when people (usually teens or twenty-somethings) will go on a pleasure trip and call it an adventure. I lost track of my reason for a while, but it came back to me and here it is... young Christians are traveling the world just to see it. When we should be traveling the world to spread the Gospel, as Jesus told us to do. It seems like such a gigantic waste to travel without trying to reach the unreached.
I want to do mission work. I would go tomorrow, if someone had a place for me. I would go anywhere. To do the Lord's work. That's what adventure is to me.

Just like charity, sometimes that mission begins at home. As a 20 something who DOES travel alone solely to see the world and meet new people, the goal was to always build confidence and overcome social anxiety. (I was a recluse for years)

It's worked, and overall I'm now categorically in a much better place, and therefore much more use to society and to those who rely on me.

I'm nowhere near revised enough to spread the gospel (I've only been a Christian for a few years) but the biggest roadblock in my life had been overcome.

Traveling used to make me very excited. Now, I don't see the point of it.

But it's true, I think traveling also helped me a lot to overcome social anxiety. I used to fear social settings a lot.

Only traveling is very expensive. If not for my job, I would never travel on my own money.

That said, near the end of my 3 day stretch I was having STRONG hallucinations. I honestly struggled to decipher between dream world and reality. I get the feeling that it would have worn off if I had continued to stay awake, but ain't nobody got time for that.

Yes, your body would have eventually won and you'd fall asleep or die.

Adventure's whatever the hell I want it to be at the onset of said adventure. I would call exploring the USS Constitution or the Freedom Trail just as much of an adventure as when I'm roaming through a National Forest or cruising aimlessly down the highway on a road trip.

Agreed, an adventure is whatever you want it to be, and sometimes just an eventful time that you didn't want. Heck, I've had an adventure driving back from Dallas, something I do multiple times per year.

I was talking with a friend about the concept of "adventure" and how it irks me that people will go on tourist-y trips and call it an "adventure." I don't think it means what you think it means.

So, how do you define adventure?
And while we're at it, what kind of adventures would you like to have, if any?

For me, adventure is doing something I have not done before and or something challenging. Whether it is traveling, visiting, hiking, etc. I like to do what I refer to as 'exploratory' hikes. These are hikes not on normal trails and get to explore and find old mine shafts, old abandoned cars and buildings, etc. There is a lot of that in central and eastern Arizona. When it comes to traveling, it is an adventure driving my 60s or 70s era old Pontiacs to all parts of the US and Canada. Have covered 47 states so far ( Montana and Alaska pending ). My longest road trip so far has been 7 weeks and covered just under 11,000 miles! I do not know anyone else who has done that for fun. Have been Blessed to be able to see so much of the US. I remember talking to friends and relatives while on the road- They would ask "when are you coming home?" I would answer that I had not thought about it yet. It is adventurous to go places and do things to explore and it is fun and can be challenging. Even visiting churches and attanding service on Sundays at places you have never been to and may neverbe back to- it's adventurous.
These are among the virtues of being single and free. No baggage or ties. do what you want, when you want within reason. f I want to go somewhere, I do not have to ask anyone. I either just go or, if it requires more funding, than I save up until I can go. The time of year is also another factor for adventure traveling. Normally, I prefer the fall due to its beauty. Very few people get to do this before retirement age. It is us singles that have the most opportunities because of no ties with kids or family.

Almost any type of trip can be an adventure. I think a lot of this depends on the traveller's personality. I get really into every trip I go on and I try to experience as many new things as possible. I think certain activities might be very intriguing to some and extremely boring to others. There are probably many differing opinions as to what constitutes an adventure. Even on more touristy trips there is still time to explore new places with no preset plan. I think adventure can also include trying different foods or going on excursions to unique places to learn or see new things. I just went parasailing on my recent trip. ( My second time doing it, but first over the ocean ). It was quite the memorable experience. Definitely not something I'll forget soon.
