Dear friends,

How do we say "Advent" in Greek and Russian?

Does the word used in these languages for the Advent season translate literally as in English? That is, Advent means to come, arrival; do the Greek and Russian words have the same meaning?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Dear Rusmeister,

You mean the fasting period? That would be:
"rozhdestvensky /razh-DYEST-vyen-skee/ post" (Nativity fast)
or
"filippovsky /fee-LEE-puhv-skee/ post" (the Philip fast)

Thanks for the answer. Now, I only need to know what's the name in Greek. ;)

Rick
