• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are other Adventist groups such as Jehovah's Witnesses and Christadelphians free to talk at your site? How about people from other non-Adventist faiths?

I would imagine that other catholic groups like Lutherans & Methodists would be welcome too.

On Advent Talk on a thread titled, "Energy Fears Looming-New Survivalists Prepare" I agreed with a poster that made this statement:

"Wars and rumors of wars the bible tells us. I think the same applies to Economic upheaval and rumors of economic upheaval.

Remember the Y2K bug. It was supposed to bring down civilization as we know it. People stockpiled food and drugs and guns and waited. Nothing happened. Midnight Jan 1 2000 came and went and no power outages and computers worked just fine. Maybe it was the billions the corporations put into upgraded or maybe the bug was over rated. In any case I do not put much faith in rumors of economic upheaval until it happens."
My exact quote in response was, "I agree" and I also quoted John 16:33 and Isaiah 33:14 to demonstrate that as long as we have Jesus Christ we really have nothing to fear in life, or in death.

A poster, whom I have already had a few run-ins with over there, made this comment, regarding my post:

"OTH (On the other hand), is it possible for news events to be posted without it being followed by a sermon. Thanks
On Advent Talk apparently quoting scripture with the "intent" of offering hope in Christ (which I need on a daily basis) is considered by some to be preaching a "sermon."

I made mention of this to the Administrator of this Advent Talk, Daryl Fawcett, in a PM. And, being one to give credit when and where credit is due, I want to thank Daryl publicly for these two posts in relation to my PM:

One,

B*****,

Exactly what post are you referring to that prompted you to post this part of your post?
This post by Daryl was in relation to the above referenced quote, "OTH (On the other hand), is it possible for news events to be posted without it being followed by a sermon. Thanks"

Two,

As there are only two posts that brought the spiritual aspect of this into the picture, I wouldn't call this a sermon on a Christian oriented board.

These are all part of the signs that Christ spoke about in Matthew 24.
The reasoning and honesty are greatly appreciated.

I have decided to take the "high road" with a number of these posters and administrators over at Advent Talk. By their own comments and personal attacks against me they will clearly demonstrate that I am not the problem over there that they unfortunately think I am.

The person to whom Daryl made his original two posts answered his query in this manner:

This is the part. Yes I know there were only two posts. I also know how quickly these issues can turn into a sermon. Especially when a response is basically bible texts
I had originally thought that the general discussion area would be free of the deeper issues on the forum. Some where those that maybe are visiting for the first time or have registered and have not yet posted could feel comfortable taking part without sermonizing.

I stand corrected and probably should back out of this discussion

Nothing in the rules state that the "general discussion area" is free or would be free or should be free of quoting Bible verses or from ever hearing them.

Shortly after this posting DF PM'd. Shortly after receiving my reply regarding his PM he was kind enough to post this:

B*****,

One or two posts like this are OK and acceptable, however, not to the extent of becoming a Bible Study in itself, as that is reserved for the more appropriate Doctrinal Discussions forum, therefore, in regards to this aspect of it, you are correct.

So Daryl seems to be hedging his bets with regards to this particular poster. What if every one of my posts included some reference to scripture? Would that be acceptable regarding any particular topic? Where is it stated in the rules at Advent Talk that a poster is only entitled to so many Bible quotes per post per thread?

It's not! It's no where in the rules.

Bottom line is this: A particular poster makes a comment with respect to the comments of another poster that have absolutely nothing to do with them and instead of making mention of this to the poster, Daryl tries to "qualify" what is acceptable and what isn't. One or two posts with scripture content is OK but no more.

Here's what is defined as general discussion:

A public forum for respectful general discussion not covered under any of the other forums.

I suppose we will soon see a qualifier regarding how many times each poster is allowed to quote scripture in each topic.

Maybe it could read: "A public forum for respectful general discussion not covered under any of the other forums. But remember, even though this a supposedly a "Christian" forum, do not quote scripture more than twice in any topic. Failure to follow the rules at Advent Talk could lead to disciplinary action."

What a joke!

Ya think? I thought he went over there to turn the spigot off. Gas was on average 1.73 a gallon in March 2003. Five years and a few trillion later it's 4.00 a gallon.
All I have to say is this. People pay $1.29 (+ tax, and more) for 20 oz. of the most pleantiful resource on the planet (water) at almost any gas station/convenience store without giving it a second thought...hmm

Free, you might want to add a qualifier. "Some people...."

This little exchange by Freeindeed2 lead to this:

My reply to Frees introduction post:

*Welcome Sign* Free. Hopefully, we can have some good conversation here as always.

Free said:

RND, you know I'm always open to 'good conversation'. It's when power plays are made that I consider it NOT to be 'good conversation' any longer. Nobody has a market on God, Jesus Christ, the 'church' HE started 2000 years ago (the body of Christ, made up of ALL who believe in HIM alone for salvation, where Jesus Himself is the Head), and Christianity (the label given to all who believe in HIM). If it's truly OPEN discussion, then I'm in. I'm not for attacking individuals, but I AM for truly OPEN and Scriptural discussion of ANY belief. I put them all on the table a long time ago knowing the God has promised that the Holy Spirit (who is fully God and who lives IN ALL who believe in Christ) will lead us into ALL truth (Jesus Christ!). So...if that's what this board is about, I'm in...

In CHRIST ALONE...

So far so good! I said:

Yes Free, I've always known you be be open to good conversation and hopefully you can find that here. As far as any other points you've made I prefer not to comment. But, welcome none-the-less. What I think I'll do is start a discussion in the "Theology" arena with your name on it and you can pick the topic of your choice when you're ready!

To which came these replies:

Now, what would be the point of that, RND? When Freeindeed is ready to open a discussion, don't you think he or she can do it themselves?

Then came this from our buddy Daryl:

ADMIN HAT ON!

This is an Introduce Yourself To Us Here thread, therefore, anything beyond that can be and may be removed.

ADMIN HAT OFF!

Then in the thread I started titled " Start us off Free" for Free to post in (in the theology section mind you) the exchange went like this:

Me:

Free, let's start a discussion here. You pick the topic when you're ready to start posting.

Followed by:

Your point being RND?

Surely Feeindeed could start his own thread? Or does he need to be 'wet-nursed'?

Followed by our buddy Daryl:

ADMIN HAT ON!

As Freeindeed has the ability to created his own thread, this type of thread is inappropriate and is therefore closed.

ADMIN HAT OFF!

Now mind you, the whole purpose in my doing this was simply this....from Free:

No problem. I think I'll watch the discussions for a while to see how others are treated and read what's available from past discussions before jumping in myself. Thanks!

Daryl, you and your crew over there are a real piece of work! Where in the rules does it say that a thread can't be started that will hopefully lead to a discussion?

Or do you just make up the rules as you go along?

RND, I got banned for using Scripture in the 'General Discussion' forum and for showing how forgiveness was smack in the middle of the Gospel. It wasn't even a discussion about SDA beliefs! It was on forgiveness and some, including the mods, were against Scripture being used in the discussion. Oh well...

freeindeed2,

If you keep posting against Advent Talk here, don't be surprised if you lose complete access there.
Well Daryl, you've gotta do what you gotta do. There was nothing in my posts that fell outside the scope of the forum rules, and if there was it would be nice to know exactly what it was that I posted about forgiveness that was so offensive (kind of hard for me to do since they deleted the posts with Scripture in them!). I'd PM a mod or administrator, but you cut off communication even with mods. Maybe you could go look at the PM that was sent to me and tell me if it adds up or if the sentence of mine quoted there has anything to do with breaking rules. I'm sure you can PM me and clarify as the administrator (sorry if that's not your official title). Something doesn't add up.

In Christ alone...

Sorry, but I am not about to discuss things pertaining to Advent Talk here at CF, other than to say what I said in regards to those speaking against Admin decisions taken at Advent Talk here at CF.

You know what? I'm really sick and tired of this superior attitude that admins and mods acquire when they become the same. Do you all really think you are above reproach and error? This is a message board for heavens sake--not the Supreme Court! And even they have stolen the people's right to redress thru the adoption of the illegal, immoral and unConstitutional 'protection' of 'immunity! Have you noticed how roaches prefer the darkness? Light brings truth! This is why light is aquainted with truth, while deceit is practiced under cover, in the darkness.

Daryl, if RND and others have a legitimate grip about how affairs are being conducted at AT, then the Christian thing to do would to be give them due process; not shut-downs and shut-offs. Talk opening and honestly about this problem and you will gain far more respect of fellow posters.

Folks, you might want to check out Daryl's latest: (remember the banner there about the first amendment being under attack?)

Re: Forum Rules & Registration Agreement

The following Forum Rule has now been modified as shown in the bolded portion of the Forum Rule:

Quote:

23 - Any complaints pertaining to the decision of an Administrator or Moderator will only be made to that Administrator or Moderator, either by PM, or by Email. The complaint will NOT be posted, neither in any topic of Advent Talk, except where authorized by the Administrator, nor in any other forum outside of Advent Talk, unless first authorized by the Administrator.

Sorry. I have not posted here at CF in awhile so can't give you the link.
