  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I haven't seen any evidence that the prohibition includes divorcees who remarry. Or couples who eat shellfish.

the first rule of using the Bible to discriminate against people is that we do so SELECTIVELY. The Bible is a good rule of thumb until it speaks against something we are OK with.

It seems your argument centers around, "The federal government should sponsor discrimination because I've interpreted the Bible to say that it's right."
Sounds good.

Do you understand why it is unacceptable in a secular republic?
Do you understand that I don’t think that children should be put in abhorrent situations such as same-sex couples?

Yes, I do. What I don't understand is why you expect a federal subsidy for your religious prejudices.

Not prejudice. Conviction.
OK, conviction. What makes your "conviction" superior to anyone else's that you expect a pass on rules that everyone else has to abide by to get federal funds?

The discussion is about changing the rules.

The Bible, however, says different.

I do not think they care at all. They say to themselves "Who cares what the Bible says, it's antiquated and we know so much more than God. Let us eat, drink, and be merry and every love who they want. There is no 'Christian' law"

There shouldn't be Christian law because the United States of America is not a Christian nation and the federal government should never endorse or promote Christianity and its biblical tenets. In fact, the federal government should never endorse or promote one specific religion over other religions.

Judge not lest he be judged.

I think it's ironic that most of the Christians who stand in judgment against homosexuals don't judge adulterers with the same level of condemnation and one result of that is Trump is the President.
