  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So why should Christian adoption agencies get a pass for discrimination, but not others?

Christian adoption agencies shouldn't get a pass for discrimination. Christians aren't entitled to be given special treatment from the government and be exempt from obeying the law simply because they are Christian. Christians shouldn't be given preferential treatment by the government.

The Bible, however, says different.

What does the Bible say about placing children in adoptive families of same-sex couples? We all know what God says about people being gay, but what does it say about adoption agencies?

Pornography bad, abhorrent sexual practices, good?

Yes, I consider exposing young children to pornography by a Christian parent or a child being sexually molested by a church leader or Catholic priest is much worse than the personal sexual acts of a same-sex couple in the privacy of their bedroom. The love life of a same-sex couple is personal, just as it is for straight couples. It certainly shouldn't be the concern of the Christians who don't approve of it.

If scripture is against homosexuality, then it’s safe to assume that placing children with a homosexual couple will also be sinful because it would be condoning that action.

You really moved the goalposts on that one.

I don't think that's what the other poster was saying. Let's think about it this way: is YOUR pastor a big advocate of pornography? Does YOUR pastor get up every Sunday with his copy of *****s and read aloud to you guys at church? No, probably not. In fact that pastor probably doesn't approve of pornography. Now imagine if that pastor was also busy going through his private stash of disgusting porn every Sunday afternoon because he just LOVES it?

That would be HYPOCRISY. It would mean that the other poster was talking about people who CLAIM to believe something, but actually DO NOT, and really just want POWER over others and they will use religion as their means of getting stuff from others.

THAT is the kind of piety that doesn't need to have access to children.

These made up families?

And you actually think there are NOT Christians out there who simply mouth the words without actually loving God? Really?

You need to read your Bible. Because those type of people are EXPLICITLY WANRED ABOUT in Matthew 7:21.

Because they are (hopefully) trying to follow God’s will.
And the federal government should subsidize some particular sectarian notion of what's God's will is? What I see is that certain Christians expect to be given a pass on the requirements for federal subsidies that other groups have to abide by--because they are Christians. In a secular republic that is unacceptable.

Nobody is talking about breaking the law.

There are many places where it is ILLEGAL to discriminate on the basis of sexual preference.

Oh, yeah, and the fact that ALL AMERICANS are guaranteed the same access to justice by the Constitution.

So the solution is easy--stop taking federal money.
