  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You bring up a good point about how prevalent sin is. However, we shouldn’t pretend that a homosexual couple is a good thing just because there’s sin within heterosexual couples.

I am still struggling with how one sin is worse than another before God. I know we are all sinners, short of God's desire for us, but it does seem that if we are to allow for one sin to be an "absolute bar" then other sins must surely also be absolute bars, even if the couple is opposite sex.

But perhaps, not being a Christian, it is harder for me to understand how truly evil it is to be gay and how it's OK if one is a serial violator of sacred vows taken before God in a holy union.

I wasn’t trying to convince you. The reason for the OP is in the OP.
How have you existed for so long without seeing evidence of the exact opposite? So you know any gay people?

I have no problem with private religious adoption and foster agencies doing this if they are not accepting federal funding. If they are, then federal funding shouldn't be used to back religious conviction of any particular religion. They should not accept the government's money and do their own private fund raising to uphold their religious beliefs.

To be quite honest I'm in total agreement. If a group doesn't take public funds they can certainly do whatever they wish. Of course they cannot also get tax exemption either. But overall it is probably best for the religion as well as the society that one does not corrupt the other.

Well, that’s not the argument.

It would actually appear to be a big part of it. Clearly the sin of being gay is quite overtly called out in the Bible itself as being an abomination. But the sin of violating a sacred vow before God is OK? It seems that a same-sex couple is right off the bat inherently bad for a child, but an opposite sex couple made up of people who serially thumb their noses at God by violating sacred vows before him must have done something else in order to be found unfit to be adoptive parents.

Trump admin: Adoption agencies won’t be forced to give kids to same-sex couples | News | LifeSite

“The Trump administration announced Friday that it will not be enforcing Obama-era rules forcing faith-based adoption and foster agencies to place children in same-sex households, and proposed new rules specifically recognizing the religious and conscience rights of such organizations.”

And this is why so many evangelicals overlook many sinful actions and character flaws of President Trump.

Just in case you were wondering.
First let me say that I agree that children should be raised in homes with a mom and a dad, not two moms or two dads.

My opinion about this doesn't have anything to do with sin but because child psychologists say that children are better off and statics have proven this to be true. If they a lacking either the female or male representation in their lives they lose. That's why organizations such as Big Brothers and Sisters were created. That's why many divorced parents have begun living not only in the same city as their ex but also in the same neighborhood or school district and given their children the freedom to go back and forth between their homes as they choose.

Why did Evangelicals overlook his bad behaviors before the 2016 primaries? Evangelicals could have voted for Cruz or Rubio, as a minority did, and still got conservative SCourt justices, etc.

Adoption agencies have been discriminating against same-sex couples and single people before Obama was president, and since. What "Obama-era" legislation prohibits it? Have we just been ignoring it for the past three years?

So, what rule is actually changing? The article claims that Obama-era rules force agencies to place children in same-sex households, but the only change that I can see is in the HHS rules that determine where federal tax-funded grants will be awarded.

It seems more accurate to say that the Trump administration will not be enforcing rules that prohibited federal tax-funded grants to adoption and foster agencies that discriminate against potential adopters based on religious or faith-based criteria. Wouldn't it? No one was ever forcing faith-based agencies to place children in same-sex households.

Do you have a citation? My understanding is that research has shown two parents are better but their sex relative to one another is not important.

Children haven't been living with same-sex couples long enough to get any kind of real statics.
I'm not going to look up the info. I'm just stating why I believe what I believe, I'm not trying to convince anyone else.
However, I will add that a couple who have been close friends for over 20 yrs. have a lesbian daughter who is married. She and her partner have adopted two baby boys and a toddler over the last few years. All of the boys are siblings. Both women are college grads and one has her master's. For the very reasons I stated above they quit their well paying university jobs, sold their home, and moved back to the town where the rest of her large family lives. This way the boys can spend a good part of their time with grandpa, four uncles, and several male cousins.

No worries. Was just curious if new info had come out.

Then that kind of negates the whole "you have to have opposite sex parents" thing doesn't it?

Not really when you are considering what is 'best' for children. Just as it isn't 'best' for children when their parents divorce. It isn't 'best' for children to be raised by a single parent. It isn't 'best' for children to be raised by parents of the same sex.

It's best for children to be raised within a loving, supporting family whatever form that comes in.

Hey, don’t give them ideas.

Atheists and other non-Christians could be next or the tables may turn and certain Christians might find their civil rights and equality on the chomping block because other citizens don't like them.

I don't think there are many ways to shame evangelicals.

The Bible tells us Believers to expect
comments made such as that.

Ultimately, I’d prefer it to be a Christian husband and wife. But a biblically married couple is the next best thing. Same-sex couples are not in God’s plan.

Exactly so many people think they are.

I see many people on here subtly trying to shame evangelicals for supporting Trump. So if you all are aware, then many are being disingenuous.

I find it quite interesting that people think it is just evangelicals that support President Trump. I am not an evangelical and I proudly support President Trump. I am very happy that he has decided not to follow the sinful and harmful polices of the last guy.
