  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

OUR CHURCH AND PASTOR BELIVES IT IS BEHAVIOR AND PARENTING. I WOULD HAVE TO DISAGREE. MY SON IA ADHD I TRIED FOR 2 YEARS TO CONTROL HIM AND DO IT WITH OUT MEDS. HOW EVER HE WAS KICKED OUT OF DAYCARES AND I EVEN BROUGHT IN A BEHAVIORLIST WHOM TAUGHT ME HOW TO DEAL WITH HIM AND WORK WITH HIM ON BEHAVIOR. AS I SAID AFTER 2 YEARS I GOT HIM ON MEDS. HE HAS ONLY HAD THE NORMAL 4 YEAR OLD ISSUES SENCE THEN " I DONT WANNA, MOMMY WHY?, AND THINGS LIKE THAT. IT HAS EVEN SLOWED HIM DOWN LONG ENOUGH HE IS LEARNING AT A HIGHER LEVEL:thumbsup:

Some kids need the meds to get over the initial problems, some never learn how. Like I said the brain doesn't come with a handbook. We don't even yet know what all exact chemicals and hormones are missing from ADD people. And some bodies CANNOT make the right ones (compare it to a diabetic, not all diabetics can be controled with diet, some MUST have the insulin that thier body willnot make)

So don't feel bad (you don't blame a diabetic who can't make insulin do you?), but don't lose hope of getting rid of the medicine later, he might be able to make the right stuff later (or not)

It's when children get addicted to the meds and mom and dad get addicted to the lack of symptoms that I get irritated (worrried). When mom and dad say "eh, he has drugs, so I don't have to teach him to be self-disciplined and get off of them", that's what worries me. I plan on using my elementary education degree somewhere down the road. The possiblity of having half a dozen "labeled and drugged" kids in my classroom are frighteningly high. I will stop here.....

My dd has ADHD she is adopted and 1 of 7 children 5 of the seven are ADHD I do think a lot of it was the lack of parenting skills early on, she is much better now than when we first adopted we basically retrained behaviors, we used herbal remedies, we used medications, I think it was the combination of meds and behavior modification that worked for us, her meds are now minimal. Another thing we did was to find an outlet for her over enthusisim, never ending activity

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and ADHD came up. She thinks, and I hope I get this right, that ADHD is not a medical condition but a behavioral issue and maybe a spiritual battle.

You're friend is wrong. ADD is a medical condition. From Wikipedia's article on ADD: 5 Possible causes

So then the question is.... is it a biologically inerhited trait, or are parents who are ADHD just more likely to accept that their kids are also?

"Scientific evidence suggests most strongly that, in many cases, the disorder is genetically transmitted, and is caused by an imbalance or deficiency in certain chemicals that regulate the efficiency with which the brain controls behavior."

5.1 Genetic vulnerabilities
