Arela and Hank raced in the forest towards the garrison, their steps swift and sured. As they ran with anxiety heavy on their hearts, Ryaren, Liam and Talin headed out in a similar direction but a little to the right. At the base of the mountain that came within sight very quickly, was the entrance to the abandoned dwarven mine, Ghalilo, and once they gone past there, they would arrive in the Kingdom of Eriuke, where Liam could mobilize forces to block the enemies, so to give them time to head for their next destination.

"And that's where we're going," Liam said grimly.

Talin looked at the entrance of the mines. I don't like the looks of this place the last time anyone went into those mines the only survivor reported that Orcs and Goblins populated the tunnels the rest either became slaves or meat for the fowl creatures bellies. But if this is the way we must go then let us go. Liam led the way into the mines; Ryaren followed behind him as Talin took the rear.

where're they going to attack? i was thinking of having Arela and Hank coming to block up the entrance so the armies could not go after them. but now the tunnels are orc and goblin infested? um....
----

"Careful. We never know what is in here," Liam said.
"What IS in here Liam?" Ryaren said, shivering.

"The dwarves are no longer here, but the tunnels are reputed to be dangerous. A small number of goblins or orcs seems to have called this place home."

"Just a few you said?" Talin asked. He had never ventured into here before.

"A few is enough of a danger to us," Liam said grimly as they entered, the confounding stone walls closing in on them.

well, it is abandoned, but i never thought of having orcs and goblins in them. We can if you want.. but not too big a number.
----

Arela and Hank finally arrived at the garrison. It was not a big one, but with enough men to create a diversion or just hold the enemies for a while. Soldiers came up to block their way as they neared, and after hearing about the man they were after, they directed them to a two storey building in the garrison, probably the largest building there was. Arela eyed the soldiers around, taking note of their exercises and the atmosphere in place.

"This bunch is ready to go anytime," Hank muttered. Arela nodded.

They were escorted into the lower floor and then a large room where captains would gather to plan their strategies. Captain Megnak turned out to be a lean man in his fourties. The weariness in his face, his alertness and the kind of questions he asked them all pointed to a seasoned veteran.

"Liam? ha, what is he up to this time?" the captain barked.
Arela thought this was one tough veteran. "He's protecting the Kendarila, a legendary artifact that is already in the enemies' eye."

"That again? He sure runs around inviting trouble a lot," the captain grumbled. It was more like, He sure runs around inviting us a lot of trouble.

"So he needs reinforcement at the old abandoned dwarven mine. Just enough to hold so they can get through safely," Hank summed up their request.

Nah we will just keep the Mines empty.

Angband
Master your monster is about to hatch the orc jailer stated as it bowed to Morgoth. With out a word morgoth walked down to the pit where days ago he had begun the process to make a general. A few minutes later morgoth and several orcs stood around the pit as the orc jailers hauled out a man size sack of mud. The creature crawled out of the sack of mud it was seven feet tall with a muscular chest, thin arms and hands with four fingers. Its head resembled that of a Morlock .A flat face with two slits for a nose two and cruel eyes that were red like the fires of Hades. And just above its ears were two horns. It had a mouth filled with cruel serrated teeth. Its skin was jet black with chalk white stripes running down his chest. One of you give him a sword and try to kill him Morgoth ordered. One of the orcs gave the creature a sword then boldly came forward the creature sprang upon the orc using the cruel sword in its hand to battle the orc. The battle lasted only a minute the creature suddenly ripped the orcs sword from its hand and warped its sinewy arms around his body and positioned the orcs neck just below its mouth. The creature opened its mouth and bit down hard. The orc gave a strangled cry then went limp as a boned fish. Yes now this is a true warrior morgoth roared in delight now leave us. The remaining orcs picked up their dead companion and ran of in fear. The two just stood there for a moment Morgoth and the creature observing one another. Morgoth then motioned for the creature to follow him. The creature followed loyally like a child that follows its parent. Morgoth went to the demon armory. The Cyclops bowed as morgoth entered. What is your wish my lord? Forge armor and a sword for our general make it the best armor this world has ever seen an armor that will allow no arrows, swords, or spears to hurt him make him demon armor and a demon sword. Yes master. Morgoth then entered his throne room. Now then what shall I call you? My lord the creature spoke in a deep raspy voice I am Durza the General of Angband’s armies.

They hurried through the tunnels, turning left and right according to Liam's sense of direction. Surprisingly, they did not meet any of the dangerous creatures that Liam warned them of, and the guardian was nonplussed about it. After walking on the twisting stoney path for two hours or so, they found themselves coming to a large chamber with the walls covered in carvings.

"Let's rest for a bit," Ryaren said, feeling the floor for a spot to sit on.
Liam wedged the torch between a large crack that was running up the wall.

"How long has it been since you last came here?" Talin asked suddenly.
Liam was looking at the carvings as if he had known them. "More than 100 years.." he said in reverie.

No wonder we're not seeing any orcs or goblins. Talin thought, his puzzle solved.

The carved walls, about 150 feet tall, supporting a board ceiling of intricate patterns, depicted the dwarves at a forging. Due to the erosion of time, large parts of the walls were covered in thick white dust and many sections had fallen into state of disrepair. Taking up Liam’s torch, Ryaren shone it over the wall as she walked, placing the fire close to the dust. She was awed by the exquisite details carved and the architecture of the chamber.

Talin glanced at Liam who was sitting on a flat stone facing the wall. The guardian had not spoken a word since he wedged the torch in a crack. “What are the pictures about?” Talin asked curiously, knowing the guardian had an answer.

Liam did not seem to hear him. He stared transfixed at the spot, submerged in the flow of events of the past. Ryaren completed her inspection and joined them.

Talin repeated his question.

“The making of the Kendarila.”

Talin and Ryaren watched him without a word. Talin could tell Liam was in a talking mood and he was about to reveal something significant; a history lost so long ago that no one remembered.

“About a thousand years ago, the Kendarila was made. Requested by the elves, humans and dwarves alliance, it was a weapon to aid them in their darkest hour. Because the weapon was so powerful, a guardian was assigned to it, and for some unknown reason, whoever chosen as the guardian was given a prolonged life upon making of the contract.” Liam’s voice dropped, his hand caressing the wood of his staff.

Ryaren fingered the Kendarila as the enormity of Liam’s job and the potential of the horn sank in. But then, what was her part in this?

“The guardians could not use the horn. Our job was to guard the instrument, not to guide its purpose.” He looked at Ryaren with piercing eyes. “The Kendarila only resurfaces in needy times and its user has the responsibility to use it wisely.”

“Big job,” Talin commented.

“How am I supposed to use this?” Ryaren said, her voice exasperated. “Do I spend my entire life looking after it?” she was beginning to think her fate had taken a cruel twist.

“We do not know. But the one to spend an entire life looking after it would be me,” Liam said softly, in his own way comforting Ryaren.

Talin contemplated the information he was just given. And what of Morgoth and his fortress of Angband where dose he come in? Liam was silent for a minute then cleared his throat. Morgoth came to this world three thousand years before the Kendarila was forged. As far as we know he came after a great battle had been fought against Heaven and Hell. Morgoth was Satan’s loyal servant but he tired of being a servant first he served God then Satan. After the battle Morgoth and the demons and monsters under his command deserted Satan and came to Earth. There he set up his kingdom and enslaved the primitive men and beasts to his bidding. His plan was to rule our world and make it fortress that would defy Satan and God. He first tried to turn men, elves, and dwarves to his service willingly. It didn't work they angered Morgoth and that started the war it lasted for many years. Until the Kendarila was used against his armies to a startling effect his armies were swallowed up by the earth after that Morgoth has been quite for many years until now.
