Nobody on this Earth knows for sure. Some traditions claim that he did, but those are just speculation.

Ok, here's the contradiction in Christianity.

If Adam repented doesn't that mean his sin is gone and there is no such thing as "original sin"?

if Adam can repent, doesn't that mean God forgive him and God forgave him without dying for his sins?

Why would God die for people's sins when he used to forgive them without dying?

When did Adam repent?

Furthermore, you're running a false premise here about forgiveness without dying.

"God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished - he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus." - Romans 3:25-26

God differed final judgment on the "Old Testament Saints" until Christ's sacrifice had been made.

Sin is a debt that has to be paid. The comparatively small acts of penance that the Old Testament talks about cannot pay the sin debts that people have. God ordained them as a reminder of sin, and to point to the one perfect sacrifice for all time, Jesus Christ.

If I may interject (this is slightly off-topic)...

Sin is a debt that must be paid. God sent Jesus, his one and only son, to pay this debt, thereby permitting sinners access to heaven in the afterlife. However, in order to reach heaven, one must still repent for their sins. If Jesus paid the debt for original sin, how does sin still exist? And why must one accept Christ as his or her Savior to reap the benefits of his sacrifice (enternity in heaven)? Scriptures are always welcome and appreciated, but I'd prefer a more Socratic method of explanation if possible.

Jesus paid the debt for those who would put their faith in him. Not for those who do not. Furthermore, sin is defined as "falling short," which people always have done and always will do in this age - you might as well ask why nobody is perfect. And everybody will be perfect one day - that is everyone who makes it into Heaven.

There is no contradiction as it is only because of Christ that anyone can live eternally. Christ defeated death by death. Adam brought death into the world through his sin. He missed the mark and thus separated Himself from God. It is a pious Christian belief that even had Adam never sinned, the Incarnation would still be necessary because of God's love for us. We all experience the consequence of Adam's sin (death), but we do not bear his guilt for it. Christ went to hell and freed the captives. Throughout the entire Old Testament, people had the hope to see their salvation, Christ. The righteous had faith without seeing the fulfillment of it. In the icon of the Resurrection, we see Christ pulling Adam and Eve from their graves. Christ is the new Adam. It is through Christ and only through Christ that the dead live.

Christ defeated sin and death. Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and upon those in the tombs bestowing life! This act of love is hardly weak. We are made to be in communion with God, but sin prevents this. Only through the Incarnation do we have a way to be reconciled to God, to achieve theosis. Without Christ being risen from the dead, we would all still be dead in our sins.

If you reduce forgiveness to something that simple that doesn't address the problem you arrive at your questions but have missed the whole point of the Judeo/Christian story.

Whether Adam said sorry or not, forgiving him doesn't fix the problem. The story of Israel climaxing in the story of Jesus is the story of God sorting out the problem that is introduced by human sin, so that we are put right, freed from sin, and able to take forward a redeemed creation once more. The event that enables that is the life, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth as the climax of the story of Abraham and Israel and continued in the story of the Church looking towards its consumation in his return.

Where does it say this in the Bible?
