  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Acts 10:30 has Cornelius saying "Four days ago I was fasting until this hour;..." We don't know what day it was, but let's say for the purpose of this question that it was a Thursday when he made the statement. To what day of the week would you think he was referring?

3 days previous (~72 hours/Monday), by the way WE would reckon time today.

He was a God fearer. These were Gentiles who had adopted some forms of Jewish practice. If he had adopted Jewish customs of the fast, Mondays and Thursdays were fast days.

That would make the day a Tuesday or Friday when Cornelius said this.

Steve Petersen,

I'm afraid I don't see what that has to do with the OP. Could you explain?

You wondered what day he was referring to when he said "four days ago." If he had been fasting four days ago and following Jewish custom of fasting, he would have fasted on Monday or Thursday.

Steve Petersen,
re: "If he had been fasting four days ago and following Jewish custom of fasting, he would have fasted on Monday or Thursday."

It probably couldn't have been a Thursday since Peter most likely wouldn't have traveled on a Sabbath. So that leaves your Monday answer. I shall add it to the Monday side of the survey.
