Unlike some other churches which foster a herd mentality we actually have to choose to join the SDA church. Unfortunately, far too many aren't well-grounded in the principles of the Bible to make an intelligent choice and understand what they have done and they haven't been converted in the heart. So, they think they know how to think on the issues when they don't--that's why SS sometimes turns into a pooling of ignorance. Still others think they are better than the rest and want power and respect for what they say, even when they don't know what they are talking about. We have people who read a book (or even two!) and they think that they are the experts in the field. Because some are still unconverted the best they can do is "pick, pick, pick." You probably have as many reasons as there are people.

Given all the argumentation I have witnessed within the last few days I am left with a question. What is it about SDA theology that produces this mind set?

We are a lot more focused on doctrine then other churchs. Everyone, obviously, feels that their doctrine is correct... and instead of following their own salvation they condemn others whose doctrine they think is false.

Discussion of doctrine is good, keeping it in mind is good. It keeps you out of traps and pitfalls.

Condemning people is bad. And that is what has led to problems here.

the sda belief is that they are the "true" church. they have a "true" prophet, the "true" message for the end times. are given the message of warning the world to prepare for the second coming of Christ. they also believe that the doctrines can not ever be wrong for 2 reasons, 1 because they believe there interruption is correct and 2 there prophet endorsed them.

This the problem is that there are new faction that have a risen that don't quite agree with the all or nothing approach. they believe in the basic frame work of SDA'ims but not all the details this is the source of conflict with in the SDA church.

Herd mentality? You may need to expand on this because what we have experienced here is an attempt to drive people into a herd.
