Discipleship is life. Christ disciples me and I will disciple others. As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me.
1 Thessalonians 1:6
You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 6:12
We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
John MacArthur said "A disciple is simply a person, who embraces and assists in spreading the teachings of another. A person who Repents, Believes, and Submits to Christ clearly embraces the teachings of Christ, for that's what faith is all about. And for the rest of their life on earth the Christian (i.e., disciple) continues to embrace the teachings of Christ and spreads those teachings to others, seeking to make more disciples.
We are long on membership but short on discipleship. We are more anxious to gather statistics than to grow saints. Vance Havner
