• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello everyone, I have been suffering from internet addiction for several years and it is causing destructive effects on my life and my career. I have tried to fight it off using my own will power but failed repeatedly. I'd really wish to find someone who could help me by becoming my partner in this struggle. If you are willing to help, please send an email to me to travellersolo, at yahoo dot com.

Many thanks.

Quick question, by addiction to the internet are you talking pornography? shopping? media? or facebook type thing?
Hi, first of all thanks for your reply-it feels good that someone is finally noticing my post.

my addiction to the internet is mainly in reading news, blogs, all sorts of interest of mine: music, technology, politics, literature, travel, just too many to list. porn was also part of it but it stopped some years back - thank God. Now, my struggle is that whenever I bump into difficulty in my work and studies (doing post grad), I'll just go to the web and read something nice to ease the anxiety, but it will drag on into hours, and before i knew it, half a day will be gone.

this will have to stop, but i have very weak will power, i need someone to check on me, on a daily basis would be best, until i can shake this bad habit off. fyi, i just can't stop my internet connection, my work and research need to use it, it makes my struggle harder to overcome.

Thank you so much for listening and your willingness to help. if you haven't heard of anything like this, it is more or less like TV addiction where people just spend excessive hours on it channel-surfing, ending up wasting lots of useful hours of the day, resulting in negligence of work, exercise, family, prayer time, social life, etc. the only difference is: i'm glued to the computer monitor, instead of the TV screen, but the net effect is about the same.

if you could help, you would be my accountability partner checking on me regularly, helping me to set a target, monitoring me, encouraging or admonishing me, and most of all, praying for me.

if you have the time to do so, please let me know. I really appreciate your response regardless of your availability.

I have suffered from obsession for a long time. i really want to read the news online. especially political news from abroad(I am Chinese).I usually stay in bed over 20 hours.i am not kidding, and it really drive me crazy. today I just finished an examination which matters my entire life. last year i failed the exam. but when the exam finished today, i suddenly find i have no appetite to read news now.so, i think your problems may result from pressure. pressure is the worst thing in our world. pressure will drive you crazy and you still find no one shows you sympathy, nor do God.

Yeah, you are quite right, pressure can drive me to that too, more like i can't stand it, so i will run away from it, replace it with something that feels better.

so how are you doing now?
