First off, I'm not an anti-Pentecostal. I was Pentecostal for years and still have Charismatic beliefs. But why is it that Pentecostal ministries have such an abysmal record of fiscal accountability? Holiness organizations on the other hand have the top 2 spots. This comes from Ministrywatch.com. The ministries in bold are the one's I know are pentecostal/Charismatic. It reads like TBN prime time!

First of all, just because someone claims to be Pentecostal doesn't make them Pentecostal. It has become a code word for upbeat, exciting worship. Just because a ministry has that word in it, or uses upbeat music, or 'speaks in tongues' does not make it Christian, much less Pentecostal.

Second, this is a VERY tiny portion of so many, many Pentecostal ministries working in the world today. People tend to focus on the large, televised ministries, while 99% of the work done by Pentecostal ministries are small, poorly funded, and truly depending on God to provide on a literal day-to-day basis.

I think the problem is that Pentecostal worship can be very exciting and seems to pull others into the joy of the Lord. Therefore, it is used to manipulate, by people who are not completely on the up-and-up. Also, when someone has a ministry that expands quickly, they can get so wrapped up in the success that they forget why they began the ministry in the first place.

People can talk about this type of thing all the time. Any time there's something good, something evil will mimic it for the purpose of disparaging it. It's like the whole Catholic church child abuse thing. Just because a small portion of priests abused children doesn't mean all Catholics are child abusers. Just because a few well-advertised ministries are tainted doesn't mean they all are.

Plus, have you ever considered that a lack of "transparency" does not necessarily indicate a lack of accountability. It means that there's accountability to someone other than this evil, fault-finding world.

my first thought is to wonder why someone would think coming here was the place to come for this ... we're a little forum on a site that is not Pentecostal property ... and we're not our brothers keeper ... and we're here to worship and fellowship ... not to be made accountable for something we had nothing to do with ...

why come to place fault ...

... why should we feel the need to 'justify' anything ... justification comes from the Lord ...

where did your denomination rank?

what the real question or point will be ...

most likely you're here with honest intent ... however, I don't feel comfortable or the need to post to something designed from the start with guilt built in ... the discernment here is usually 'well, here we go again ... bad, bad, denomination are we' ...

time will tell ...

yes those churches may have a bad record or something. But something else I noted, they are all in very large cities. Pentacostals ( specificly the assemblies of God) are EVERYWHERE. those churches do not even amount to .001% of Pentacostal churches. the fact remains too that Pentacostalism has brought more people to Christianity than almost any other branch. So you cannot judge a denomination by such a small number of churches.

So this Ministry Watch website has a list of financially responsible organizations to give to – none of them Pentecostal, against a list of irresponsible organizations to give to – most of them Pentecostal. And what is the criteria the list is based on??? Not given. How do we know this website is not the sham??? We do not.

This website just appears to be another device for running Pentecostals into the dirt. Usually, these type approaches are listing the false prophets from the real ministries – which is another Cessationist v. Pentecostal comparison, designed to run Pentecostals into the dirt.

Part of the problem is, non-Pentecostal ministries evangelistically bring almost nobody into the kingdom, while people are coming into the kingdom under Pentecostal ministries so fast, it is impossible for statisticians to keep up with the numbers. This is a major embarrassment for Cessationist Christianity and those who believe the power of God can only be experienced in worldly ways. They are virtually desperate to create methods to demonstrate how the Pentecostals are really just evil. The chart you reference has a good approach to accomplish that objective, as it is set out for easy viewing in jumping to a conclusion – it is not based on actual facts, investigation techniques, methods of evaluation, etc. It is just set out as this webpage's view of things.

However, we see from the first chapters of First Corinthians that in general, that Christians who are only willing to accept the faith in worldly ways are eager for strife and division, which is based on envy. In reality, we can find many organizations from history of all types of Christian faith which have abused finances, and the more successful the ministry, the more likely the abuse comes – the finances are so large and complicated that pressure arises, and Satan has a special interest in attacking the most successful for the kingdom. But accusing a ministry of being in reality criminal in financial dealings should not be done lightly or without the highest standards of evidence and investigation... or then, the motives of the accusers have to be suspected.

And thanks for telling us you are not anti-Pentecostal and you actually have beliefs like ours... as posters who set out positions in our forum such as you have just done always do that, and it is a real help in understanding where you are coming from.

Assuming that you have marked all (if not most) of those organisations that claim to be Full Gospel and considering the incredible size of both the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements I am actually pleased to see that we don't rate all that high. I'm not surprised to see Schuller's so called ministry high on the list.

So overall we seem to be rating rather well and from what you are telling us it seems that the evangelical component of the church is in a rather bad way. From what the list is telling me it seems that fiscally speaking that it is far safer to belong to a Full Gospel church/organisation that it is with one that is Evangelical.

When I went to ministrywatch.com I noticed that they were promoting books by a rather infamous individual by the name of MacArthur who is openly agressive toward the Power of God and indeed with most aspects of the ministry of the Spirit - tends to smack of sectarianism to me.
