The following is a partial list of major theologians who have written on the topic of the Holy Spirit.

They represent not only classic-Pentecostals but Pentecostals, charismatics and evangelical scholarship. Not all of these academics speak in tongues but as with most academics of our day, they all acknowledge that the 9 Manifestations of the Holy Spirit (1Co 12:7-11) are for todays church. When it comes to the more distinctive doctrines of the various Pentecostal denominations they will reflect a wide range of diverse views.

All of those in the list are recognised as being leading scholars and over time I will add in more as they come to my attention.

This is the second page to my OP as there appears to be a 15000 character limitation.

In another thread, a rather uninformed comment was made that it would be rare to find where a Pentecostal or charismatic scholar holds a qualification from a recognised educational institution. As such, being that I knew that this was completely untrue this is the reason for my posting these names. If you come across this type of remark all you have to do is to supply a link to this thread or cut and paste the material as required.

The Center for New Testament Textual Research has released a fascinating online resource (prototype) which allows both the specialist and the curious student of Scripture to see exactly how the Greek New Testament has been compiled. (see link below)

This is not a simple site but for those who have an interest with knowing how the NA27 Greek text was compiled and especially with how the early scribes either accidentally or intentionally altered a word or passage then you should find this site interesting.

“The New Testament Transcripts Prototype currently features the writings of the complete New Testament with transcripts of between 2 and 26 manuscripts and an apparatus based on them, collated against the standard scholarly edition of the Greek New Testament (Nestle-Aland, 27th edition). As with any prototype, you should use it with caution. You can access it by clicking here. A guide that explains the main features is available here

The H. Milton Haggard Center for New Testament Textual Studies (HCNTTS) has released an online beta resource that allows us to compare the variant Greek words for the book of Philippians.

I don’t know if they plan to release this online resource for the entire New Testament but if they do (and who knows when) then it should prove to be one of the more helpful resources for both serious study and for the exposition of the Scriptures.

For those who may be interested in seeing the contents and photos of the original pages of Codex Sinaiticus then the following link will be of interest: Codex Sinaiticus - Home

“The Codex Sinaiticus Project is an international collaboration to reunite the entire manuscript in digital form and make it accessible to a global audience for the first time. Drawing on the expertise of leading scholars, conservators and curators, the Project gives everyone the opportunity to connect directly with this famous manuscript.”

Do you know pentecostal, charismatic academic scholars on NT and NT exegesis
Hi macci,

Some of the best books on exegesis were produced by Gordon Fee and they have been used by Bible colleges and students for a while now.

  • New Testament Exegesis: A Handbook for Students and Pastors (2002) Link
  • Gospel and Spirit: Issues in New Testament Hermeneutics (1991) Link
  • God's Empowering Presence: The Holy Spirit in the Letters of Paul (1994) Link
  • Paul, the Spirit, and the People of God (1994) Link
  • How to Read the Bible Book by Book (2009) Link
  • To what End Exegesis?: Essays Textual, Exegetical, and Theological (2001) Link
  • Listening to the Spirit in the Text (2000) Link
There are certainly lots of other great books by various authors but when it comes to technical books on exegesis Fee always comes to mind.

As the Book of Acts is important for Pentecostal theology, you might want to take a look at the series on Acts that Craig Keener is now producing. I have his first book of four and the first 700+ pages of this book is merely the introduction! His second book is due out soon and from what I can tell he seems to be trying to address every important known position on each passage of Acts - a monumental task on his part.

  • Acts, an Exegetical Commentary, Craig S. Keener (2013) Link

Hope this helps.

I dont know Keener, but isnt he baptist?
As I am one of those who came to the Lord near the end of the Charismatic Renewal, in those days the very notion of Biblical scholarship was deemed to belong to the ‘dead in Christ’. For most of us, the first recognised Pentecostal academic was with Gordon Fee in the late 80’s though many others have come on board since this time.

One of the more interesting fruits of the Charismatic Renewal was with the incredible number of scholars that adopted and further enhanced Full Gospel theology, to the point where they have placed our distinctives right at the top of the theological agenda. There are even many scholars who are neither Pentecostal or charismatic who have helped to further enhance our theology and they are often referred to as being “open-but-friendly”, this grouping probably encompasses the majority of serious scholars.
Keener is a good example of someone who is outside of our normal circles and even though he may not come under the Pentecostal banner, his indepth approach to Full Gospel theology has helped to ensure the continuing demise of the old cessationist mindset within mainline theological circles.

So even though someone may not come from within traditional Pentecostal circles, we can be assured that there are many scholars from within not only the charismatic movement but also along with those who are “open-but-cautious” who have been very affective with providing us with the necessary exegetical material that we so need.

Biblicist, I must say, you must be able to read fast, true?

Sadly, Biblicist no longer participates here. He announced his departure a few weeks ago.

Thanks,

I know Gordon Fee :) and his books, I forgot to write that other pentecostal academic than G. Fee :)

I dont know Keener, but isnt he baptist?

As far as I see the pentecostals arent strong in NT exegesis.

But its high time to change.

Yes, Keener identifies as Baptist, though his education included an AG college. He regularly fellowships with groups other than Baptists, including Messianics. He is, FWIW, a "practicing" Charismatic, as opposed to a "theoretical" Charismatic.

Where can I find Biblicist's note?

Not sure. Maybe look him up in the Members directory and see if it's possible to view all his posts. It would be one of the last ones.
