I'm confused.
I know that people have used rubber bands to try and break the habit of cutting. But like for the last month or so, I've had to refrain from cutting because I've had doctors appointments galor (a whole other story).
Tonight I just fell over the edge. I couldn't take everything. I just had one of those times where I felt really overwhelmed and angry. So I grabbed a kitchen knife and almost lost my cool, but remembered that I have two more appointments this week. So I stopped.
But I was still really overwhelmed so I grabbed a really thin hair tie and started snapping away. But like I was snapping with the intent to get the same result from cutting.
So does this technically mean I'm abusing a theapy technique?
Or is that what I'm supposed to do.
This has just been an awful terrible week, and I just kinda fell over the edge tonight

It is a starting point though Hun. Maybe next time you could try putting in a few other methods first and see if they help? Things like drawing or even writing on yourself with a marker or putting ice on your arm. It can give you the same shock but without the pain. Slowly try to decrease the amount you need them or move down to things like reading or writing in a journal. It is a process, slowly weaning yourself off things - almost like quitting smoking. It is hard to do it cold turkey, but easier if you gradually decrease the coping techniques.
