  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And what on earth do you mean by that?
It means that whether a person dies prematurely by a suicide bomber, or whether your god (nature) catches up to him and he dies naturally of old age, my God is going to consign that person to either Heaven or Hell.

You've chosen an interesting belief. Please forgive me if I choose differently than you - in favor of reason over cruelty.

Different how? We have food, we have sacrifice.

The difference is on the meaning of the action, in addition to that one is a real action (eat a food of god's shape) and one is a symbolic action (bread and wine). I am not sure why did aztecs eat one of their gods (not sure who is the unfortunate one, it would make sense if it were the food god), but I think the reason must be very simple and straight forward. While the symbolic action in Christianity is, in fact, the center of the whole doctrine.

AV you are living proof that it helps to be stupid if you want to be religious,
unfortunately for you, you were not as stupid as you should have been,
but trying to make your religion make sense has finally sent you over the top,(as we all knew it would)
it can now safely be said with some certainty that you have reached the dizzy heights of being certifiable,
your God has finally got you where he want's you, the next step will be the dribble,
only a true religious nut can dribble properly, so drink plenty of water and keep practicing.

Believe me --- "religion" has nothing to do with me being stupid.
unfortunately for you, you were not as stupid as you should have been,
I'd rather be stupid than a fool.
but trying to make your religion make sense has finally sent you over the top,(as we all knew it would)
What religion?
it can now safely be said with some certainty that you have reached the dizzy heights of being certifiable,
I wasn't aware certifiability and altitude had anything to do with each other.
your God has finally got you where he want's you,
Not quite --- I'm still in the "progressive sanctification" stage.

As the song goes:
He's still working on me, to make me what I ought to be.
It took Him just a week to make the earth and the stars ---
The sun and the moon and Jupiter and Mars.
How loving and patient He must be --- cause He's still working on me.
:)
the next step will be the dribble,
only a true religious nut can dribble properly, so drink plenty of water and keep practicing.
Interesting you would use that analogy --- it's not beneath us to do just that ---
1 Samuel 21:12-13 said:
12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

I think that is evidence of my salvation.

So God wants you to be ignorant of science but still try to tell scientists when they get it "wrong", and tell science to "take a hike" when it disagrees with you. Is that it?

That says quite a bit about your version of God.

God doesn't want me to be "ignorant of science", Brainiac, or He would have erased what I already learned.

Instead, He simply changed the focus of my attention.

[I know --- I said He turned one light off --- but that doesn't mean He erased my knowledge of science.]

You still don't understand that, do you?

Even though I've explained it over and over, and even used instances where Jesus did the same thing.

For some reason I'm reminded of those Batman imitators from the beginning of The Dark Knight.

For some reason, I believe you --- and I didn't even see The Dark Knight.

Given the content of your posts, I'd say that's exactly what He did.

Instead, He simply changed the focus of my attention.

To yourself? Give yourself credit for promoting yourself.

[I know --- I said He turned one light off --- but that doesn't mean He erased my knowledge of science.]

Is it possible to erase a blank slate?

You still don't understand that, do you?

Even though I've explained it over and over, and even used instances where Jesus did the same thing.

Too bad you never explained it well -- and comparing yourself to Jesus don't help*

*(btw, was that God's idea, or your own?)

God doesn't want me to be "ignorant of science", Brainiac, or He would have erased what I already learned.

But strangely enough, through your various posts, you've shown you are ignorant of the basic concepts underlying science.

So, maybe he did erase whatever you knew!

Instead, He simply changed the focus of my attention.
You claim you read lots of science stuff, but again, judging by your posts they must have been little more than strings of words to you. You seem to have missed the important subtext to what science is, what science does and how science is done.

[I know --- I said He turned one light off --- but that doesn't mean He erased my knowledge of science.]You still don't understand that, do you?
I understand a lot about your grasp of science, AV. Perhaps more than you would like.

Suuuuure you do --- like: it answers to a Higher Standard, or it's proponents are a gift from God?

Actually, AV, I do believe he was referring to your real views on science -- you know precious little about it except that it does nothing to help you promote yourself, so it can take a hike.

Just look around you. The lighting in your home. The computer keyboard you are typing on. The furnace that heats your home in Winter. The telephone. Your car. Your refrigerator. Your washing machine. The medicine in your medicine cabinet. All based on science, which you claim is "unproven and unsupportable." Go live in a cave, if you really believe what you say. Or does God's Lone Prophet not have the courage of his convictions?

"A fool despises good counsel, but a wise man takes it to heart."
-- Confucius

"Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something."
-- Plato

"To the fool, he who speaks wisdom will sound foolish."
— Euripedes

Science of this state belongs in this state, and I am in this state, therefore it is my slave. Not the master of the past and future as you so slyly suggest! I need not bow down to it, and have no idea why people arre so cowed as to think they need to, Be free.
