  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So in essence, you have drawn the conclusion beforehand anyway, so you just do this because you're bored. Or because you're afraid that you might be wrong, so you'll just keep looking indefinitely because "it can't contradict the Bible".

Wow. You're making a mockery of science. Congratulations.

Science is nothing but a mockery of God anyhow, it deserves to be mocked something fierce! It is BASED on a drawn conclusion that the present is the key to the past. An unproven, unsupportable conclusion.

Are you sure God wanted you to stop learning, or did you stop on your own?

I'd hate to see anyone's God -- even your own -- get falsely blamed for that one.

I dont' think God makes AV "stop" learning anything. We could not learn everything. I AV's case, it is simply that God says to him: start to learn "that" in stead of learning "this". I don't think a person can do this to himself. If AV was a science major, how could he be turned off on science so completely?

Anyway, it is a very interesting case.

I believe it's a reference to what we call the Lord's Table.

There are three major ways to look at it:

  1. TRANSUBSTANTIATION --- where the bread and wine literally become the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ.
  2. CONSUBSTANTIATION --- where the bread and wine spiritually become the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ.
  3. MEMORIALIZATION --- where the bread and wine [usually as grape juice] symbolize the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ.

Thanks.

No matter how does one look at this, I still think it is a unique doctrine only found in Christianity.

The Aztecs would make bread out of amaranth in the shape of their god (cannot remember which one) and eat it. It scared the missionaries so much that the outlawed the farming of amaranth!

Thanks. Yes, Aztecs. I am going to look it up.

How cute. Dad, the master of unproven, unsupportable and laughable ideas, calls science a mockery.

Wakeupcall: no one with half a brain takes you seriously. You are the last one that should accuse others or others things of being a mockery, unproven or unsupportable.

Don't even bother to try to use your version of reasoning in reply: it won't work on an intelligent being. Although I guess you could respond if you want to make a fool of yourself again...

Religion gives a believer selective blindness and deafness,
the ability not to see what they don't want to see and not to hear what they don't want to hear,
and in America, stupidity is symbolized by the shape of a cross or a fish.
I like the ad hominem that we're "freaks in a freak show" better.

In any case --- whether we're freaks or selectively blind and deaf --- we have you guys' attention --- don't we?

I think this one is easy to strike out.

Aztec people are pantheistic. They have dozens of gods. And they do human sacrifice. For such a religion, it is not surprising at all if they ate one of their god for some reason.

This is an entirely different concept from that of the Lord's Supper in Christianity.

Who else eat their god?

Yes you do have our attention, so do suicide bombers,
the only difference between you and suicide bombers is that they do damage and take lives in seconds,
you and your nutty friends take years, but the outcome in the end is still the same,
religious fanatics just doing their thing.

I cant imagine why anyone would think that ritual cannibalism was an advanced civilized concept.

Cultures all over the world have had leaders (political / religions) who claimed they were literally descended from god. I guess that they were all wrong except one. Was it that all of them were wrong. Or was it none of them were wrong. You cant PROVE that the Emporer of Japan isnt descended form god. I think he is just pretending that now he isnt. Tradition suggests otherwise.

Just look around you. The lighting in your home. The computer keyboard you are typing on. The furnace that heats your home in Winter. The telephone. Your car. Your refrigerator. Your washing machine. The medicine in your medicine cabinet. All based on science, which you claim is "unproven and unsupportable." Go live in a cave, if you really believe what you say. Or does God's Lone Prophet not have the courage of his convictions?

"A fool despises good counsel, but a wise man takes it to heart."
-- Confucius

"Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something."
-- Plato

"To the fool, he who speaks wisdom will sound foolish."

Different how? We have food, we have sacrifice.

My God makes sure that when your god catches up to a person --- that person goes where he is supposed to go.
