Deep State. Formal name, the Civil Service. The people who run the day to day functions of government regardless of electoral shifts.

What came before Civil Service? The system of Spoils. While no system is perfect, obviously, this at least ensures continuity, stability and a lot less corruption. With Civil Service, employees have to qualify for their jobs by something other than contributing to the president's inaugural fund or being a member of his private club.

The troika is led by Ike Perlmutter, the reclusive chairman of Marvel Entertainment, who is a longtime acquaintance of President Trump’s. The third member is a lawyer named Marc Sherman. None of them has ever served in the U.S. military or government.

Yet from a thousand miles away, they have leaned on VA officials and steered policies affecting millions of Americans. They have remained hidden except to a few VA insiders, who have come to call them “the Mar-a-Lago Crowd.”​

Unelected career political officials who remain in positions year in and year out of influence as elected governments come and go. The mere existence of the deep state is not a problem - the problem is when these bureaucrats, due to their own personal ideological leanings, use that influence to undermine the policies of duly elected political leadership.



We already have a word for that - insubordination. In the private sector, it gets you fired on the spot.
