At night it's nearly impossible to tell if the ongoing traffic is completely on their side in time to stop.
Not everyone does. In fact, teens will turn off their headlights while driving in the country and assume that the ongoing traffic doesn't do the same. Then drive over hills on country roads, very fast.I most certainly do! Those that don't shouldn't be behind the wheel at all.
And most people hardly slow down at intersections and just assume that side traffic won't T-Bone them as they pass through.
Though 1000's are killed that way. That's one reason roundabouts are gaining popularity. To cut down on traffic fatalities.
