If one were to refer to Augustine as "Auggie Daddy", and/or "Auggie" do you feel that one would be in violation of the rules of this forum?

Or, if one were to use of the word "heresy" instead of doctrine to describe a particular teaching of Augustine, do you feel that one would be breaking the rules of this forum?

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration and input.

That is an intersting question. In the Mormon section under Unorthodox Theologies some have been reported for referring to Joseph Smith as Joe, although Mormons prefer calling him Joseph. I am not so familiar in my habits, so I refer to him as Mr. Smith, which seems to offend nobody. So, perhaps if you refer to Augustine as Mr. Augustine rather than Auggie, it might be more acceptable.

I think just for the forums' sake, we should call everybody by their name. When we're not on here, call them whatever.

Don't see how close to the line you can get without going over. Avoid getting near the line all together.

Wow, Now I would not call him that! I will called him Blessed Augustine, because although he taught the filioque and had a corrupt view on Original Sin, he is still a Saint and a Church Father in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Please do not call him, it is just being disrespectful. That is not his name. Now if you are not Orthodox, or whatever, you do not have to call him "Saint Augustine" or "Blessed Augustine" but at least "Augustine" or "Augustine of Hippo".

Blessings,
Ramon

Yes. Just because some persistently make inflammatory posts referring to 'Early Christian Fathers' and 'Saint Augustine' does not mean that one can attempt to redress the balance by like means.

Theology guidelines are here. To answer both of your questions here are two of the forum specific guidelines that govern over this forum.

7: "Tread Carefully" Topics: Theology posters are expected to understand that accusations of heresy, false doctrine, idolatry, anti-Christ, cult, non-Christian beliefs, antisemitism, etc., are very emotionally laden. They are not conducive to clear discussion. While they are not forbidden in the context of a discussion (with evidence, examples, and/or support), they are discouraged by themselves, as terms of insult. This rule may be referred to as the "tread carefully" rule.

8: Discussion of Historical Figures: Discussion of historical figures important to Christians of many theological backgrounds is a necessary component of theological discourse. Such figures include [but are not limited to]: the Pope, the Patriarchs of the Eastern Orthodox Churches, various Church Fathers (e.g., St. Augustine), Martin Luther, John Calvin, Pat Robertson, Billy Graham, etc. Such figures are not immune from criticism. However, insults and accusations against these people are not to be posted lightly, and may only be used when accompanied by citation of sources and in the "If X, then Y, because of Z" format. Statements unaccompanied by these requirements will be deemed inflammatory and dealt with appropriately.

Please be respectful and lets keep polemics out of the discussions.

Rules are fine but where you draw the line has bias written all over it.

How is that? The rules require that everyone exhibit the same amount of respect as everyone else. How is that biased?
