  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

#1. We all know God commanded us not to commit murder. My question is, is going to war and killing enemies or shooting someone in self defense not considered an act of murder?

#2. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be in Heaven (Matthew 8:13) if they aren't there already. What about David from the Bible?
He was good for the most part, but he 'murdered' someone and stole (committed adultery with) his wife. That clearly violates two Commandments. Going back to the first question, I can see how Abraham and both his son and grandson received salvation as they didn't violate The 10 Commandments to my best understanding (I have to give them credit for that because they all lived prior to Christ dying on the cross for humanity's ultimate sin). Despite the fact that what David did was absolutely evil, I still want him to go to Heaven, as that will mean receiving salvation for Christians won't be like completing a Navy Seal Team 6 training program hard.

Thank you for reading my questions. May God bless you all.

1) Murder is the unjustifiable taking of life. If going to war and killing enemies or shooting someone in self defense are justifiable reasons for killing people, then such acts are not considered murder.

2) It is not for us to decide who does and who does not go to heaven. That is for God to decide. How about we let God do his job?

No problem, and God bless you too!

Tasty is right ---let God do His job and never doubt His immutable Word. Murder is intentional and society deals with such. Even a murderer can be saved, as was the Apostle Paul who facilitated murder, but did it ignorantly (not being saved) as he said ---thinking he was serving God. Any soul can be saved if they receive the Savior and are thus "born again".

1. No, this is not an act of murder, though some of us believe warfare is not the Christian calling;
2. Israelites killed enemies of God as directed by God, and sins of old like sins today can be forgiven to one who did not honestly know God or was weak. I do not see that we should be looking at Israel for anything concerning the Christian life today in this age. They did not have the indwelling and sealing of the Holy Spirit, as real Christians today, so the flesh overcame them at times by Satan's urging. Professing Christians today may not be really "born again" by the Spirit and so act mostly in the flesh, and can do very bad things.

If we immerse ourselves in the political and military actions of this world's nations, we lose our spiritual citizenship. I believe we should be loyal to the Kingdom of God.
John 18:36-in a nutshell, this is not our world and these are not our wars.
the proper Christian attitude now is not to kill at all.
Going to war against an enemy like Isis has only one intention- to kill them.
If you were a police officer, you do not go out daily with the intention to kill but rather only to protect citizens against
any harm that might be heading their way. There is the difference.
As Christians our battles are spiritual.
Matt 5:43-48 - Love your enemies.......
How can Christians kill fellow human beings Christ came to save?

1.) Murder is unlawful killing.

2.) It is not up to us to decided, it is not a requirement to keep the 10 Commandments perfectly in order to enter heaven. We are all saved by grace through faith, and if we have faith, then we will making it a practice to obey God and a practice to repent for when we don't. David was always quick to repent.

David was forgiven.

13 Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." And Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has taken away your sin; you shall not die. 14 "However, because by this deed you have given occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born to you shall surely die."…

God equips authorities with means to condemn evil doers.
Romans 13:1-4,
"There is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves....if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil."

God allows us to defend ourselves and our goods.
Exodus 22:2,
"If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no blood guiltiness on his account."

#2. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be in Heaven (Matthew 8:13) if they aren't there already. What about David from the Bible?

All of humanity is guilty except for Jesus, the sinless Son of God. Romans 3:10-12; Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:10

Genesis tells us a little bit about Abraham, Issac, and Jacob's sins. Genesis 16:3; Genesis 26:9; Genesis 27:18
But, even though they sinned before Jesus came, they had the promise of a coming Messiah. You see, just as we look back to the time when Jesus died on the cross, they looked forward to it!
Here are some examples of this in the cases of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob:
John 8:56; Genesis 15:6; Hebrews 11:17-19; Hebrews 11:20; Hebrews 11:21; Hebrews 11:8-9

So, you see? The Old Testament had believers too! They knew that the only way to be saved was to trust that God would forgive their sin and give them the ability to repent.
Consider this in David's case. Note highlights of his prayer of confession when he finally repented.
His hope that God will forgive: Psalms 51:1-2; Psalms 51:7-9; Psalms 51:16-17
His hope that God will enable repentance: Psalms 51:12-13; Psalms 51:15

Thankfully, Jesus' completion of that training program was for them, too! His graduation from boot camp was theirs as well! Even though we are too weak to pass boot camp, we can be encouraged to persevere because, at the end, we will receive the commendation Jesus earned for us! Hebrews 5:8-9. This is the promise to everyone (past, present, future) who believes God, and lives by faith in the Gospel.
