IMHO, if one is going to argue that a dogma of some group (be such LDS or Lutheran or Calvinist or JW or Greek Orthodox - whatever) is accountable and should be substantiated, then what's good for the goose is good for the gander. We seem to have a common "dual standard" being applied. "What YOU say is moot - you need to substantiate it as true! But what I say is dogma if I say it is, accept it with docility!" Replace "I" and "You" with whatever labels or denominations you like - same/same.

Is this official dogma?

Not YET. Many Catholic observers believe it is the next new dogma of the RCC - perhaps to be declared so within our lifetimes. Some thought the last Pope was just about to do so when the Lord called him home...

I think it does have the status of doctrine at this time - but I'm not sure about that.

What are the sources?

The RCC believes it is true, therefore it is - according to the RCC. Once it's dogma, it will not be permitted to ask if it's true. Actually, according to CCC #87, the faithful Catholic can't do that now since the RCC requires that all accept whatever the RCC alone officially says "with docility" as Jesus speaking.
