  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering, do any of you know any good exercises to even out both sizes of the stomach?

The reason I ask is that I had to wear something for a long time and now my sides are not even like they should be. One side is the not the other.

I know it can be fixed but I was hoping some of you have some good ab exercises that help besides the average crunch.

Doing crunches is not a good idea, because it puts a lot tension on your back that you don't need.... your abs are meant to be stabalizers.

If you want to lose weight in the mid section the best idea is to just diet and eat really healthy. As far as workouts you can do sprints, swim, lift weights (squats and cleans are really good for this), just get moving and every thing will even out.

I'm not convinced that crunches are bad, so long as you do them correctly. When you do a crunch, your shoulders should just leave the floor. If you are raising far enough up that your back is coming off the floor, that might not be good for you.

Another great exercise are reverse crunches. You lay on your back and bring your knees up to the point where your rear just leaves the floor.

Yet another is the bicycle crunch (what i call it, who knows what it is really called). Lay flat on your back with your arms crossed over your chest. The idea is to touch your elbow to the opposite knee. Bring one knee up, and at the same time, do a crunch/slight twist to touch the opposite elbow to that knee. Then, moving your legs like you would peddle a bicycle, bring the other knee up to touch the other elbow.

Sorry if that was ridiculously confusing. I'm not too good at explaining things.

Sounds like it might be your obliques (on the sides of your abs) and not your abs. Is is uneven on the far side of your torso? If so, then heavy weighted side bends would probably be your best bet.

Remember you're working the opposite side of the hand you're holding weight in.

Lots of people worry about abs, but the other 50% of getting good abs is a good strong back. Your body will now allow your abs to get nice and strong with a weak back.

Do normal crunches and leg lifts 2-3 times a week. Also do deadlifts to firm up that back.

I thought it was the same hand the weight was in?

But yeah it's just the one side. Werid I know but that's what happend. Sort of embrassing and feel that I'm going to be stuck like that forever.

I was doing crunches but for some reason they just don't work.

Muscles always work by contracting. When you have the dumbbell in one hand and let it down your side for the starting position, the oblique on your opposite side will be stretched. You then pull the dumbbell up by contracting that opposite side. Go heavy (maybe about 40 pounds for a starting female, but you'll have to figure it out) and you'll feel that the opposite side is definately the one working.
