A specific look of a book?

In Blanton911's question thread, Aaron-Aggie mentioned that the best way to study the Catholic faith is to read the Catechism. So now as someone who's obsessed with bookstores ( ), I have a question.

Is there a specific looking book that Catholics would suggest for someone to buy to learn and study about the Catholic faith? What I mean is, when I go to various bookstores, sometimes I see copies of the Catechism, but there are several different looking books. I would presume they're put out by different publishing companies or something. So is there a specific one that you would suggest?

Also, are there any books you would recommend that one could find in bookstores (or even online at like Amazon or Chistian Book Distributors or something) that are about Catholicism, but are not the Catechism? Or are there specific editors or publishers I should look for who would be sure to put out a book that is not biased in nature against Catholicism?

There is one that costs 8 bucks, and is short and fat. The cover is white with a blue bar at the top and bottom and the writing is large gold letters- "Catechism of the Catholic Church."

Oh boy did you ask the wrong person...I could run you into thousands of dollars of debt and enough book recommendations to last a couple decades!

"One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic" by Kenneth Whitehead is a great book relating parallels of the Early Church and todays Catholic Church, being one in the same.

The book that convinced me was The Everlasting Man by G.K. Chesterton. This, I think, is one of the best books ever written, including all genres.

Perhaps the most important chapter relating to ecclesiology is "The Five Deaths of the Faith." It helped me understand the history of the Catholic Church, and why Christ founded a visible Church.
