Bluelion,

I offer my apologies if I offended.

And in light of circumstances beyond my control, I think it is best if I bow out of this discussion.

God Bless

Till all are one.

dean that post started off to you but really ended up being to many people, you have not done those things but twin and other have.

no worries

to explain what I was saying about Calvinist is. I was in a class which taught about it, and it was taught as a heresy, i was up set because the hersey was the first things said, not so much the word was used but the view i got. When i start hearing about there ideas,(the Calvinist) and then the schools i got upset because I agreed with Calvinist mostly, but after I finished my study in the class I saw my school just disagreed with the same points i did. Might surprise you but my school agrees with OSAS, but they don't call it that they call it eternal security.

One thing my school did teach is you have to agree on all five points of Calvinist to be a Calvinist, that some people say I am a 2 or 3 pointer but there is no such thing, you must agree on all five points to be one. Might also surprise you that i was accused as being a Calvinist on another site for my OSAS stance and was run off the site because they were so against it. I mean so many people told me to leave that i left, and at the time I had know idea what that group was, this was years ago.

i understand many people did much work to figure the Word out. But I can only be as good as my teacher, I want that teacher to be Jesus. When i read about Paul or James or Peter I am filled with so much love for them, When I read Gods word I am filled with so much love and joy of God, I don't get that from reading anything else. I'll stick to Gods Word because that is the path God has laid out for me.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (the Jehovah’s Witnesses) was founded by Charles Taze Russell. Russell was raised in a Presbyterian (Calvinist) home until he was 13 years old and then joined a Congregational Church. At age 16, he began to seriously question Christian orthodoxy and became caught up in the Adventist movement which led to his founding what is now commonly known as the Bible Student movement. He was never a Mormon, and the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society was NEVER even remotely Mormon in its theology.

Calvinism is NOT a cult.

From the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:

cult
noun, often attributive \ˈkəlt\
: a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous
: a situation in which people admire and care about something or someone very much or too much
: a small group of very devoted supporters or fans

Full Definition of CULT
1
: formal religious veneration : WORSHIP
2
: a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3
: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4
: a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
5
a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad
b : the object of such devotion
c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion

Have you studied with them? Because I have and what they told me unless i am thinking of another group is they broke away from the church of latter day saints, which they told me was a branch of Mormon. Maybe we could ask a Jw they must be around here some where?

Also its not called the watchtower bible, those are the news letters, it is called the new world Bible.

PG and I rarely agree on anything. But I'd take his word on this. His historical data is usually spot on. Oh, and he didn't call it the Watchtower Bible.

I have studied The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, their writings, and the faculty at Brigham Young University. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is NOT “a branch of Mormon”—it is the Mormon Church.

I have also studied the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, otherwise known as the Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1931. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York is the publishing arm of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Notice the spellings, “Watch Tower” and “Watchtower.”

I have never been a member of either group or “studied with them.”

No, it is called The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures. I have several editions of it, including the most recent edition that was copyrighted and released for publication in 2013.

I grew up in a family of Jehovah's Witnesses, studied for two years at Brigham Young university and have lived in Utah for 35 years. The LDS and the Witnesses do not share a common origin or any doctrinal distinctives.
As for Calvinist I believe they err in some key areas of scripture, but I do not think they are a cult or heretical.

God Bless

The JW used to teach from the KJV Bible, changed to the New world Translation. I think in the early 70's. They are some of the best people you could meet and really are dedicated to the JW Doctrine. I was a JW as a child, I have grown older and being taught from the KJV at the beginning always questioned the change of the Bible to NWT.
They had to write a new Bible to suit them instead of conforming to the Word that they already had (KJV) . Any Doctrine that doesn't accept Jesus as our Savior and having to be washed in the Blood is not right for me
(Just googled NWT and it was released in 1961. As I stated I was young but do remember being taught at the Kingdom Hall out of the KJV.)

The New world translation has fewer changes and deletions than the N.K.J.

Alas though the core of the J.W.doctrine teaches Jesus was a great prophet, rather than God with us.

It is odd the quirks that arise that hide the truth.
Muslims subscribe to the Torah, and confess Abraham as their father.
They even believe in Christ's being born from a virgin.
But to them as well nothing but a prophet.

When you ponder the subject you can ask:what other man on earth has been discussed and worshiped,
In comparison to Jesus Christ.?

You can also ask what other man has been degraded in text from the secular world as much as our Lord?

Who's words in history have been so scrutinized, and revered as Jesus?

Why?
He is not dead! He lives in our hearts our spirit and our every day life.
Other men are just that men, they passed and are left to Dusty history books.
But for many they have passed on Christ our Lord.
Those who pass by Christ are passing from life to eternal death.
