A simple 'Hello.'

Hello, I am new to these forums. They're quite jarring at first, as I am not used to the layout so I could not find a place to post my question. So this will be both an introduction and a question.

I am a boy of 19 years, hailing from the United States of Amerika. My nickname in this life is 'Lev.' It originates from Slavic languages, meaning 'lion,' however it is also Hebrew for 'heart.' So I am told.

I am not sure if I could be 'classified' as Christian. I do not understand the Human labels for the various faiths among Christianity and other religions. However, I do know that I believe in Jesus and that he walked Gaea, which brings me to my question: I wish to know the best path to learn Biblical Hebrew, as well as a good bible written in said alphabet. Would anybody have resources to aid me in this endeavor?

My hope is that the light others bear within, shines their wisdom unto me, so that I may clear this fog that plagues my sight within.

I wish to know the best path to learn Biblical Hebrew, as well as a good bible written in said alphabet. Would anybody have resources to aid me in this endeavor?

I will check out the internet whether there are any OT bibles
available in ancient Hebrew. Just give me some time!

The NT was written in ancient Greek / do you want me to
check for a Greek version of the NT too?

All the people in my family are either atheist or a very few are agnostic. I am the only one that I know, to be pursuing the strength of soul. Some of the themes that are very important to me and that might interest you have to do with moving from a stance where one knows not God to one where we trust Him as a personal Savior, Lord, and co-heir.

The book of Genesis lays the foundation for understanding the rest of Scriptures. I suggest you read its content as if it were made of nothing but true stories. That is the example Jesus gave us when we read the New Testament Gospels. Whenever he refers to Old Testament passages, he does so assuming everything that is said there is actual history. Don't worry too much about how these stories map with what is believed to be true according to today's philosophical trends and perceived certainties. When you understand the foundation of knowledge, your certainties might shift.

A word of caution. Reading Genesis, and then Exodus, will clue you in to events that are referred to throughout the entire Bible. Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy contain portions that might discourage you from continuing because of the amount of details that pictures would help understanding. That is where a study Bible could be of some help. I suggest you don't hesitate to skim over whatever you don't happen to understand at first. Here I don't mean stories that you don't understand. I am thinking of lenghty descriptions of temple construction and ceremonials. The point I want to make is this: don't allow some particular passage to stop you from getting the flow of these first five books of the Bible.

I am a great fan of French philosopher Paul Ricoeur. I quoted some of his work and used some of his concepts in my Master's degree thesis (available from the French pages of www savoir et croire ca – adding dots gets you there). But the very first time I read one of his foundational books, there were very many aspects of it that made no sense at all to me. When I finished reading his book once, I read some of his other writings. Then I came back to the first work. Eventually I got through a lot of what Ricoeur had written. Eventually too I began to understand more and more his fundational book. This was all necessary to be able to use his concepts in my master's thesis.

Reading the Bible is a bit like reading the works of any important philosopher such as French Paul Ricoeur or German Hans-Georg Gadamer. As you get familiar with their entire work, you begin to understand more and more the earlier works you read from them. So is it with the Bible. Once you have gotten through the entire work, your second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. readings of the books you read at first will be clearer and more meaningful to you, until you feel at home there.

I have recognized your friend request. Though I have known about God for many years, I have only recently decided to delve into the Bibles' abyss of dialogue.

However, I asked for specific resources in my original post, the reason being is that I will use the Bible as a tool to learn languages starting with 'Biblical Hebrew,' as it were. I will be reading through Genesis and the other four books many times over, each time being of a different context. Hopefully, in the end I will comprehend what is meant to be implicit through what was stated. I will take precautions not to over analyze the data, however.
