The universe began with a huge explosion: true or false?

Huh, I learn something new every day.
Yeah the idea of an explosion I think originally came about because an Expansion is what an explosion does. But in the BB there was no actual explosion.
People used that so the layman would understand the basic mechanics of it more easily.
The fact that it is called the Big Bang doesn't help.
